The Trinnov training class considers it correct to highpass atmos tops over 100 hz and then bass manage, mt 5 years research on the subject matter blowing 6 inch woofers when relegated to top positions presents a very different conclusion. Directional cues require that all speakers go down to 50 hz, 40 preferably.
While in Brad's LOGE the surround bed was phenomenal for room pans thanks to the use of 8 inch woofers, the tops were not to my standards, even when bass managed to the side subs because to me bass management is a cop out for full frequency directionality.
Today Alcons finally announced a speaker ideal for sides and surrounds. Congrats!
