Swiss set-top software vendor iWedia announced its software is now available on the latest HiSilicon’s family of SoC for connected set-top-boxes. HiSillicon is a large Chinese set-top chip-set vendor that has shipped chipsets for 50 million IPTV and 60 million DVB boxes. iWedia and Korean set-top vendor DMT announced availability of common offering for UHD IPTV/OTT Hybrid STB running Android TV.
The Linux-based Teatro-3.0 STB software solution is available for the latest HiSilicon's family of System-on-Chip (SoC) for connected STB from HiSilicon Technologies Co., Ltd., a worldwide leading company providing silicon solutions for digital home, communications and wireless terminals.
The integrated software hardare platform is being shown at London trade show TV Connect 2016, that started today and runs through Thursday.
The Hi3798/Hi3796 series of chipsets includes Hi3798M V100, Hi3796M V100, and Hi3798C V200. It provides solutions for entry-level through high-end FHD/UHD HEVC STB. It features an advanced security engine integrating a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), a Secure Video-Path (SVP), and forensic watermarking technologies. All security requirements are fulfilled to protect the system both in static and running modes. The security engine protects the power on and boot processes, the OS kernel loading, the middleware launching, and the app/UI execution.
Teatro-3.0 is a software solution for hybrid (DVB+IP) STB based on Linux with an easy to customize User Interface / resident app developed using regular Web technologies (HTML, CSS, DOM, JavaScript). The solution features DLNA (player and renderer), access to "walled garden" Web and OTT video services (CE-HTML portals, HbbTV applications), as well as Personal Video Recorder and Time Shift Buffer.
Teatro-3.0 is pre-integrated with NAGRA and Conax Conditional Access Systems and is fully compliant with their software architecture security requirements.
"With Teatro-3.0 Pay TV broadcast operators can bring their OTT video services on the main screen along with their legacy broadcast services. All delivered with a customized and branded UI designed using basic Web technologies," said Sunghoon Kim, VP Sales at iWedia. "The latest family of SoC for connected FHD/UHD HEVC STB from HiSilicon was a perfect target for this solution and we are very pleased to have achieved this porting".
"With the availability of Teatro-3.0 on our Hi3798/Hi3796 series of chipsets and in leveraging iWedia's integration services capabilities we help our STB OEM customers to bring a better Time-To-Market to the Pay TV operators they target with connected STB," said Liu Zhiyang, General Manager of STB Chipsets at HiSilicon.
Korean Pay-TV box maker Digital Multimedia Technology Co., Ltd. (DMT) announced the availability of an iWedia Theatro 3.5 based offering for UHD IPTV/OTT hybrid STB running Android TV. The offer is made of iWedia's Teatro-3.5 STB software solution for Android TV running on DMT's UHD IPTV/OTT STB.
DMT's STB is a 4K / Ultra High-Definition (UHD) IPTV/OTT hybrid STB. The STB is based on the Broadcom BCM7252S STB system-on-chip and is equipped with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of Flash. It supports HDMI 2.0, RCA, S/PDIF, USB (x2), Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity. A DVB attachment (S2/C/T2) is proposed as an option.
Teatro-3.5, a software solution for Android TV STB, implements iWedia's ANDROID4TV framework and APIs to extend Android TV with broadcast and multicast Pay TV functionalities exposed as input modules within the Android TV Input Framework (TIF).
Teatro-3.5 allows access to live TV (over managed IP networks, OTT, and over DVB), on demand and catch-up services, recording and time shifting features, as well as to Android TV apps and to Google services (including Google Play Store, Google Play Movies & TV, and YouTube).
"We designed our STB to be an easy and elegant answer for the transition to 4K contemplated by Pay TV operators," noted KW Lee, CTO of DMT. "By combining iWedia's Teatro-3.5 software with our UHD IPTV/OTT hybrid STB we provide a one-stop-shop state-of-the-art solution to IPTV operators which choose the Android TV eco system," he added.
"We are delighted to have performed the porting of our Teatro-3.5 STB software solution for Android TV on top of DMT's STB," said Sunghoon Kim, VP Sales at iWedia. "Being pre integrated with a STB maker like DMT allows us to bring a better Time-To-Market to IPTV operators looking for a solution for Android TV," he added.
