  • Evans & Sutherland Sony created planetarium using VPL-GTZ280 4K laser projectors

Using ten of Sony's VPL-GTZ280 4K SXRD LCoS hybrid laser-phosphor projectors Evand & Sutherland and Sony put together a stable planetarium display for the Burke-Baker Planetarium, at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. "The Burke-Baker Planetarium, at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, is a world-renowned facility emphasizing education as much as entertainment.  They needed a new projection technology to keep up with their non-stop schedule of visitors and school groups, making guests feel like they’re actually on a spaceship or inside the human body. They now have 10 Sony VPL-GTZ280 4K laser projectors, delivering an immersive visual experience and reducing maintenance time and costs".

The GTZ 280 is based on the same chassis as the GTZ 270 'entertainment projector', and the VW5000 Home Theater projector, but lacks HDMI input and associated HDR support, however it does support the direct input of 120 frames per second input signals for simulation, planetaria, and other fast moving rendered content applications.
