Meet Philip’s new absolutely huge 43 inch 4K UltraClear IPS PC monitor

In the world of 4K PC displays, most models in both the professional and consumer markets tend to hover between the 24 inch and 32 inch size lines, with anything larger straying comfortably into TV-sized territory. Well now Philips has leapt right into the supersized world of TV-sized PC monitors with their new Philips BDM4350UC UltraClear 43” 4K Ultra HD Display, which they recently announced. At 43 inches, the new PC monitor is easily the size of many smaller formal 4K TV models from brands like Vizio, Samsung, and LG.
Offering up the high color vibrancy and broad viewing angles of 4K IPS panel technology, the UltraClear also delivers 4K UHD resolution at 3840 x 2160 pixels at a refresh rate of 60Hz and is definitely a more professionally-oriented 4K monitor design.
With a native aspect ratio of 16:9, a manufacturer-stated brightness of 300 cd/m2 and a respectably fast response time of 5 ms, the UltraClear could easily be used as a high quality 4K gaming PC monitor or one seriously space-rich workstation for graphic designers, video editors and other visual design pros.
Also, because this is IPS display we’re talking about, it comes with the very wide 178 degree viewing angles of the technology. On the other hand, Philips has only released information on the monitor’s so-called “Smart Contrast” ratio, which is listed as 50 million: 1. In other words, an arbitrary invented figure for what is probably a real native contrast ratio in the 800:1 to 1000:1 range, as is common for IPS.
Other awesome specs in the 43 inch BDM4350UC include dual HDMI 2.0 connectivity ports, instead of the more usual HDMI 1.4 ports which only allow 4K resolution graphics at 30Hz. On top of these the UltraClear offers up dual DisplayPort 1.2 ports and four different USB 3.0 ports for an overall connectivity package that is just about the perfect ideal in a PC monitor and rarely this robust in most models.
There are even two built-in 7 watt speakers to top off the comprehensive specs of this display.
In basic terms, the Philips UltraClear 43 inch 4K monitor considerably blurs the line between a 4K TV and a 4K PC display in the standard sense but since this particular display doesn’t run with many of the usual 4K TV ports and specs or come with any kind of smart TV interface, it can definitively be considered a 4K monitor of some massive proportions.
The BDM4350UC UltraClear is currently selling on Amazon.com for a very reasonable price of $799, which is superb when you consider how many much smaller, much less connection-rich 4K PC displays we’ve seen sell for this same price or even more expensively.
