Xiaomi Mi Note 2 to feature 4K edge display,
In News, Tech by VivMay 5,

The Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi Note Pro were successful launches at the end of last year, but the rumor mill about the successor, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2  have already started appearing. While the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro were launched in January 2015, and Xiaomi is known to have longer release cycles, it seems as though the company might be thinking of a different strategy this year. The most recent information out of China is that the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 release date will coincide with Fall, the company trying to compete heavily against Samsung and Apple.

The upcoming Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is still somewhat of a mystery, but MyDrivers have revealed that Xiaomi, alongside Huawei, are planning to introduce edge displays to their flagship line-ups, similarly to what Samsung’s been doing in the past year. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is said to feature a 4K resolution edge display that slopes around both edges of the phone, and we’ve already seen quite a few rad concepts depicting such a design in the past couple of years. MyDrivers usually get their leaks right, so there’s a distinct possibility of the Mi Note 2 to feature an edge display with additional functionality.

Other Xiaomi Mi Note 2 rumors point out that the company will be moving up resolution to 4K (3840*2160), but it will be keeping the 5.7-inch size we’ve seen in the original Mi Note and Mi Note Pro. Xiaomi might also switch to a different display technology, such as AMOLED, but most sources close to the matter say that the Mi Note 2 will feature an IPS LCD panel when it is launched. Another cool feature that is said to be added to the Mi Note 2 is pressure-sensitivity, akin to 3D Touch. MIUI could receive new features taking advantage of a pressure-sensitive display and could make the user experience rather pleasant, if we’re to consider how well 3D Touch and similar technologies have been received by users all over the world.

The design of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is also said to change compared to last year’s models, sources saying the company will be implementing a more ergonomic design that sees a rounded back that will fit snugly in the hand. Some even proposed that Xiaomi include a flexible body in the mix, much like LG’s G Flex line-up of devices. The handset might also feature a stylus to become the ultimate productivity device to compete against the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 6 and iPhone 7 Pro. Some rumors of a water resistant build and USB Type-C being part of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 also sound like plausible ideas that the Chinese company should consider implementing in their top-tier device.

A fingerprint sensor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 6 GB RAM, up to 128 GB internal storage and a battery bigger than 3400 mAh with fast charging are also features rumored to be part of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. Since camera technology on smartphones has been significantly improved this year, it’s sure Xiaomi will follow suit and upgrade the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 camera to something that can compete against the high-end shooters Samsung, LG and HTC are already using. With that in mind, we expect to see a 16 MP camera with f1.7 aperture, OIS and laser autofocus, and 8 MP camera up front with its own LED flash to help with selfies.

Although there’s still a lot of time left until the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 release date comes around, it’s pretty interesting that rumors of its edge display have already started circulating. That fuels the belief that maybe the company is changing it up this year, coming after the big companies and targeting more markets, including the U.S. smartphone market. With affordable prices that are lower than what you would pay for a similar device with an international brand name like Samsung, Xiaomi has a shot at becoming more of an international presence in the smartphone industry. What’s on your wishlist for the Xiaomi Mi Note 2?
