  • IFA 2017: LG Electronics launches Ultra Short Throw laser-phosphor projector

LG Electronics will be introducing an integrated mirror or Ultra Short Throw version of its HF80JS mini laser-phosphor projector, at IFA in Berlin early next month. The HF85JA is rated at 1500 lumens compared to the non-UST version's 2000 lumens. However the LG HD80JS has been reviewed in France, to produce little over 1000 lumens, 1083 lumens in sportsmode, laser on high. So that does not bid well for the UST.

The LG 1500 LED and the 10000 UST version also performed considerably less than advertised, depending on the version, US, European, Second Generation European Luxurious version, Korean version or the second generation US models that offer lower brightness than the first US version that was the brightest version of all, and did a respectable 900-1000 lumens. Whereas the European UST LED did not do much better than 600 lumens, the regular version around 700.

LG will also launch an LED pocket projector MiniBeam the model PH30JG, as part of its strategy to extend its leadership in the LED/Laser projector market that according to LG is estimated to grow to USD 5.7 billion in three years.

"As a global leader in the LED projector category, LG continually pioneers new ways to deliver a superb home cinema experience," said Tim Alessi, Senior Director, Product Marketing for home entertainment at LG Electronics USA. "Our expanded lineup of LED projectors offer a host of new and innovative features that enable consumers the freedom and convenience to enjoy the entertainment they love from virtually anywhere".

The ProBeam UST requires just 4.7-inches of space to display an 100-inch HD image. It offers a host of connectivity options for use with Bluetooth enabled wireless speakers or headphones, and the four corner keystone feature corrects both horizontal and vertical distortion of the picture, allowing consumers the flexibility to position the ProBeam UST virtually anywhere. The projector features LG's webOS Smart TV platform.

The LG MiniBeam has an Multi-Angle Projection feature, that allows the device to be tilted up to 70 degrees to display an image high on a wall or even on the ceiling without the use of a tripod. It comes with a built-in 9000mAh battery that lasts up to four hours, charged and connected via an USB Type-C port.

Pricing and availability of the new LG ProBeam UST laser projector) and LG MiniBeam will be announced later this year.
