Today BOE put into production the world's first G10.5 TFT-LCD production line in Hefei China, stressing this is ahead of schedule. Using the largest size of mother glass, the highest Generation LCD manufacturing plant is optimised for larger LCD displays, 65" and up. At the launch event it presented 75-inch 8K 60Hz and 120Hz displays.
The Gen 10.5 line that BOE has been building in Hefei since 2015, is the world's first Gen 10.5 production line, it has a design capacity of 120,000 pieces of glass substrates a month.
Sofar Sharp had the largest glass substrate LCD manufacturing plant of Gen 10 size. Large glass substrates allow for less left over scraps of glass and efficient fitting of larger TVs on a single sheet of glass.
With the official start of production today BOE believes "this mean that the year 2018 will become the first year of 8k". Adding that "it also marks China's leading position in the global display sphere".
BOE aims straight at 8K displays, as in 8K it sees an opportunity for itself and China to gain dominance in Display production. With an eye for 8K broadcasting opportunities to be brought by the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 are moving towards 8K, which will spark a growth surge in the industry.
To celebrate the opening BOE and video network, video codec suppliers, equipment vendors, TV set makers and other upstream and downstream manufacturers jointly held the "8K Industry Roundtable Conference", launching a discussion on 8K technology, product, application and other ecological construction, reaching related standards for 8K technology and product, promoting the popularity of 8K and China's leading player position in the global display industry.
BOE delivers LCD panels to clients, including Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, Skyworth, Konka, Hisense, Changhong, TPV, Xiaomi, and Haier.
