  • Cinionic doubles contrast of Laser-phosphor projectors, for non PLF rooms

Barco-led exhibition technology and outfitting joint venture Cionic will be showing a new native 4K, 5000:1 on-off contrast laser-phosphor illuminated projetor at Cinemacon. The projector comes in the maximum brightness versions, the DP4K-13BLPHC offers 11,500 lumens, the DP4K-18BLPHC offer upto 16,000 lumens. The projectors can be dimmed down to 30% of the maximum output. Cision promotes this feature as a way to offer 2D and 3D with the same projector.

“In our research, it became clear that exhibitors wanted to offer patrons rich, immersive movie showings in every theater – not just their largest or PLF auditoriums – but cost and efficiency were limiting factors,” said Wim Buyens, CEO of Cinionic. “We developed our Smart Laser High Contrast projectors to present brilliant imagery that captivates audiences with a one-of-a-kind premium experience.”

The HC projectors are part of the BLP (Blue Laser Phospor) Smart Laser Projector series.
The new High Contrast models, DP4K-13BLPHC and DP4K-18BLPHC, are EclairColor HDR certified, presenting images with enhanced contrast and fidelity to more accurately represent the vision originally intended by the film’s creative team. A new technology, EclairColor combines an innovative mastering process with optimized display technologies readily available on the market from Cinema outfitter and Eclair Parent company CinemaNext. Till now this meant Sony LCoS Cinema projectors, with a specified 8000:1 on-off contrast ratio, as other generally available cinema projectors did not offer the contrast required for its enhanced Dynamic Range mastered releases.
