NEC has joined the XPR DLP Pixel shifting world with the PX1005QL an 10K lumens laser-phosphor projector that comes in both a black and white case. Without lens it comes in at $24K and with a zoomlens it is just over $27K. The headline on the official announcement reads: "NEC Announces Release of New 10,000-Lumens Projector with 4K Native Resolution", but the NEC native 4K Laser-Phosphor projectors start at $100K.
Secondly on the NEC projector page under the 'New' tick box it is decribed as 10,000-lumen WQXGA Professional Installation Laser Projector. Add the words every XPR projector vendor uses: "With 8.3 million visible pixels" and "a viewable resolution of 3840 X 2160" in the press release to confirm it is using pixel shifting, as expected given the price point
On top of that all links go to 404 error pages, not detailed product info pages, and the site search doesn't even have results for PX1005QL. So details are scarce, but undoubtedly it is mirrored in an DPI model.
“This new projector combines brightness, 4K/UHD resolution, and multi-picture capabilities,” says Richard McPherson, Senior Product Manager at NEC Display Solutions. “We’re excited about this high-resolution projector because it’s designed for maximum detail and the ability to display four separate images at once to create the ultimate presentation experience”.
NEC adds: "With four times the resolution and superior color reproduction, the PX1005QL is ideal for auditoriums, museums, theaters, sanctuaries, network operation centers and similar venues. It’s particularly well-suited for artwork, photos, and other color-critical applications, as well as for CAD and architectural drawings where the maximum amount of detail is required".
It was introduced last February in Amsterdam at the ISE show, but it was somewhat overlooked as eyes were drawn to the image of 30K:1 on-off contrast, 35K Lumen Red and Blue Laser 80% of rec. 2020 color gamut 3 DMD projector's image.
