Spanish Pay-TV operator Movistar launches an 4K football service this September for its Fiber-to-the-Home customers. The first two 4K channels on offer will be Movistar Partidazo 4K and beIN LaLiga 4K. Movistar has been trialing the 4K service since this spring, when it launched its 4K decoder.
The basic TV and Football package Movistar Fúsion + Fútbol is offered for free through 2019 with the 80.- or 95.- euro per month internet access service. The 4K service itself is not yet listed among the available packages. The decoder itself costs €50.- or €100.- including installation.
Other, not specified, 4K content is said to be added later. But for now it will be limited to the two football channels. It is not known if all matches on these channels will be shown in 4K. Movistar has rights to The Spanish competition, Italian first and second divisions, German Bundesliga, English Premier League and The Champions and Europa League.
The 4K service will only be made available to the operator's Fiber customers DSL, and Satellite subscribers will not be offered the 4K service.
Both Vodafone and Orange have already luanched 4K services in the country.
