Members of the Reddit community discovered that the new Insider release of the Microoft Edge Browser based on the Chromium platform, unlike other Chromium based browsers like Google's Chrome, does include support for both PlayReady DRM, also known by the vendor name WideVine, and PlayReady HEVC support. These are bothe required to play Netflix streams at resolutions higher than 720P. This means 1080P, unless one has the latest Intel hardware, and appropriate NVidia graphics card. in that case one can also access the 4K streams by the streaming video provider.
For 4K stream play back for a PC has to be equiped with Windows 10, an Intel Kaby Lake or later processor and a Nvidia GTX1000 series or later graphics card.
Microsoft's current Edge browser already supports 1080P or higher resolutions, but Microsft is trading in its own render engine for that of Chromium. Sofar now Chromium browser on windows offers 1080P/4K playback, due to the lacking support of the required Widevine DRM.
