SID and DSCC will host the Display Industry's First Foldable Display conference During DisplayWeek. DisplayWeek is the annual conference and tradeshow for the electronic dissplay industry,organised by the Society for Information Display (SID). Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) and SID will be hosting the world's first Foldable Display Conference on May 15th at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center as part of SID's DisplayWeek.
According to DSCC Founder and CEO Ross Young, "Foldable displays represent the next big innovation in the display industry. Although there is enormous potential, there are also numerous challenges. Some challenges have already been overcome; some remain. We believe this conference is perfectly timed to help build awareness regarding both the challenges and opportunities and will become a must-attend event for years to come."

Kicking off this event will be the founder and CEO of the world's first foldable smartphone, Royole's Dr. Bill Liu. Dr. Liu founded Royole with his Stanford friends in 2012 with the mission to improve the way people interact with and perceive the world. Their foldable smartphone, the FlexPai, is just one of many innovative products they have and will develop in the future. Dr. Liu will discuss how they developed the world's first foldable smartphone.
The Panel Maker/Brand Session also features Dr. Jianping Chen, Senior Technical Fellow, Visionox, Paul Cain, Strategy Director, FlexEnable, and Thomas Wynn, Mobile Client Platforms & Innovation Systems Marketing, Intel Corp, Client Computing Group These speakers will address the challenges and solutions for foldable OLEDs as well as whether organic LCDs can crash the foldable OLED party. In addition, attendees will hear Intel's perspective on whether and how foldable smartphones will extend into notebook PCs which could invigorate the notebook PC market.

Manufacturers of materials for foldable displays will address the new materials under development for foldable displays. The entire display stack must now fold hundreds of thousands of times which requires improved or new materials to be introduced onto the display.
