Japanese Broadcast equipment maker Ikegami has released its first 31" 4K one million to one on-off contrast broadcast reference monitor. Like a number of other manufacturers Ikegami uses Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display Co., Ltd dual cell, dual layer IPS LCD panels. Remarkably Panasonic's Broadcast division does not have a monitor using its LCD sibling's product that DCI-Forum first reported on in December of 2016.
The Ikegami HQLM-3125X is an 31 inch 4K-UHD master-grade monitor with a 4,096 × 2,160 pixel 10-bit resolution and high brightness of 1,000 candela per square metre. It is designed for critical image evaluation in broadcast production control environments. The panel employs double-LCD-layer technology to achieve a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio with true black reproduction. A layer of light-modulating cells allows pixel-by-pixel control of backlight intensity, reducing light leakage and black floating.
Ikegami says the monitor is fully compliant with BT.2020 wide colour gamut. The monitor incorporates single-channel 12G-SDI x 2, 3G-SDI × 5, 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI inputs as standard features. Viewing angle for critical image evaluation is a wide 178 degrees (horizontal/vertical). 1D and 3D LUTs are supported. The HQLM-3125X can be controlled remotely via Ethernet, RS-485 or locally from the front panel.
Ikegami will show the reference monitor together with its other broadcast monitors that have received an software update enabling S-Log, S-log3 and HLG HDR support. as well as its HD, 4K and 8K camera's at IBC, September 13-17 in Amsterdam.
