  • IBC: Hispasat shows Dolby Vision via Live Satellite channel

Spanish satellite operator Hispasat launched its new 4K Dolby Vision HDR demochannel feeding a live signal into the hall to its booth. The channel showed fairly static video content of a traditional glassmaker, weldingshop and... The material was only 25 Frames per second. Compression being provided by a pre-production version of the new Thomson Video Networks ViBE 4K Encoder with upcoming HDR support , that should become available early next year. This encoder should be able to handle 4K at upto 60 frames per second, when shipping.

    The service proposal:

Hispasat demonstrated HDR using the Dolby Vision technology, that uses a base layer and a second video layer on top providing the High Dynamic information, axccording to Jorge Rodríguez López in charge of Product Strategy at Hispasat the operator's demochannel uses HEVC compression at '15 MBit/s for the base layer and 3 Megabit/s for the HDR layer'. He added that currently there are no plans to launch a similar demochannel on any of Hispasat's beams over the America's.

The material was shot using Sony's F65, the biggest camera in the CineAlta range, for movie and TV drama production.
