  • CES 2017: Vivitek launches HK2288 its first 4K DLP projector

Large OEM and ODM (DLP) Projector maker Delta electronics of Taiwan will Showcase the New Vivitek 4K Ultra HD Projector at CES 2017. The HK2288 4K Ultra HD is Vivitek's inaugural product for its new 4K Home Cinema Projector Product Series, which is expected to grow and expand throughout 2017. Available in black or white, the powerful HK2288 is engineered with an energy efficient lamp that lasts up to 4,000 hours (Dynamic Eco Mode). Through vivid color, rich blacks and crisp resolution, friends and family will be instantly captivated by what's showing on your home theater.

Vivitek has been turned into Delta's vehicle of first launch for new projector technologies, from its channel for older projectors that ODM clients had seen replaced with a new model. This started all the way back at IFA 2009, when Vivitek was one of the first two brands to launch an high-end LED projector based on Delta's design win with TI for an LED projector platform. This has turned into Delta being more and more a branded supplier with Vivitek, however we can still expect to see Delta designs and products show up in other brands' line-up. So, we expect to see other 4K DLP models, using the TI XPR technology, DMD and optical actuator, by Delta.

The HK 2288 is scheduled to be available in Q3 2017 at an MSRP of $2,999. This price is clearly below other XPR DLP projectors, a clear example of Vivitek's value for money strategy, at all performance levels.

At CES Delta will also launch an HD Ultra Short-Throw Laser Projector, the Vivitek's DH765Z-UST that, with its claimed 3500 lumens output, could be very interesting for living and mediaroom use, depending on price. Regardless, the light engine developed for this unit is a likely candidate for implementation in the 4K platform, especially as other brands, like Optoma and BenQ have already announced their Philips HLD engine versions, or intentions for a laser-phosphor based version, for higher brightness.

Or in Delta's words: "The HK2288 4K Ultra HD is Vivitek's inaugural product for its new 4K Home Cinema Projector Product Series, which is expected to grow and expand throughout 2017".

Available in black or white, the powerful HK2288 is engineered with an energy efficient lamp that lasts up to 4,000 hours (Dynamic Eco Mode). Through vivid color, rich blacks and crisp resolution, friends and family will be instantly captivated by what's showing on your home theater.

    The HK2288 features:
Real Ultra HD 4K (3,840 x 2,160) resolution with a projected image size up to 327" (diagonal)
    HDR (High Dynamic Range Imaging)
2,000 ANSI lumens of brightness with a 50,000:1 contrast ratio
DLP® DarkChip3™ and BrilliantColor™ technologies for optimal black levels and vibrant color images
Six segment color wheel delivers outstanding reds, greens and blues reproduction
Built-in 10-watt speaker and audio out port
Advanced video processor for fluid video streaming

"Whether you want to project your favorite movie in your home theater or a document in the classroom, with Vivitek's diverse collection of award-winning projection and display solutions, it's easy to find a solution for any situation," said Jeff Fu, General Manager, Display Solutions Business Unit, Delta Electronics. "These new product offerings represent our commitment to providing our customers with quality, long-lasting and high-performing technologies".

Nice little projector. I hope their able to excel beyond REC709 for HDR. Im curious how far out you can go using a color reel. I read somewhere as far as light loss all lamp driven projectors on the market with WCG are losing 40% or more due to color filtering that is a big hit.

Yup, better start with that 30K lumens of the Panasonic;-). Coretronics has the new MCLA engine, example shown at ISE the regular blue laser engine doesnclose to six, the red and blue laser mcla engine does five and the said to be p3 version in the UST is supposedly doing upto four thousand lumens.  So that would be a third off additional loss compared to blu laser, that often is not even fully 709. I am sure it will often be more, so your 40% figure does not surprise me.

The 2288 has been delayed so long Vivitek introduced the HK2299 instead. In the US MSRP is $2499. The projector uses the TI XPR technology to achieve 8.3 million pixels on screen. It comes in Black where the 2288 was only available in white. It has a RGBRGB colourwheel it is therefor geared to color not brightness. It is still specced at 2000 lumens, but that is lower than the spec for the main competitor the Optoma UHD 65 or the ACER V7850, as always measurements need to rule on real world performance.

Three HDMI 2.0 inputs show that HDMI 2.0 is now a commodity. That nonetheless some higher end models lack. It also supports HDR 10.

And you all know that all DLP Projectors that use the 2560x ? chip to create 4K resolution
are only output 60 hz whatever you feed?

I look for some people in the 3D Club Germany and as they ask me some time what is a nice cheap 4K Pr. that works with polarizer and silver screen for 3d I see the 3 Optoma Models the 550 the 60 and 65.
As the cheap one the 550 have a street price in the only 1500 Euro range I have ask a top dealer in Germany about it.
So today i got the info only 60 hz output whatever you feed.

Do you know what kind of motion bug you get when you convert 24p 25p 50p into 60!!!
Even worse when you feed 60P direct the Pr. downgrade it to 30p internally and scale it to 60hz I can not believe it but it was true!!!
                  All 3 models do this!
And even worse Optoma say that all Pr. using this chip had this problem.
So i wonder if Barco Looki or Baldur had the same problem?

Barco has its own processing technology. The white paper was posted here perhaps two years ago. It uses the XPR optical technology, but not the TI image upscaling and then extraction/splitting for the sequential fields.

Is this limited to the Coretronic ODMs, like Optoma/Acer/Viewsonic, or also the Delta ODM, Vivitek (don't know of others)? I.e. is this an TI thing?

Panasonic the pioneer of the Quad Pixel Drive also use the standard 0.9" 2560x1600 DMD, for 5K+ resolution, so it also has its own processing.

But like Barco this is a larger 3 DMD Laser-phosphor projector(s), so these aren't cheap either.

So the cheaper presentation projector has dropped €500,- the last few months, good to see that. Has there been a drop in the RGBRGB wheel UHD65? The UHD50 is launched at $1500 in the US, uses the 1080Px4 0.47" DMD, also specced at 2200 lumens with an RGBRGB wheel.
