Sony Corporation President and CEO Kazuo Hirai announced the new Dolby Vision HDR Bravia A1E OLED TV, during a press conference at CES in Las Vegas. It uses the LG Display panels, so they will be available in 55", 65" and Sony will be the first third party manufavturer launching an 77" OLED TV. But "only Sony can deliver this quality with our X1 Xtreme image processor", Hirai told the press conference.
The thin OLED panel will act as a speaker, making that the sound comes from the screen, not from speakers on the side of the display. sony brands this as Acoustic Surface. The subwoofer, electronics and connectors are all housed in the kickstand. Resulting in a flat and clean screen.
Sony will also launch the second generation of its 4K Ultra Short Throw projector, the VPL-VZ1000ES. That at WxDxH, 925 x 494 x 219mm is 40% smaller than the GTZ1 and associated first generation UST 4K Laser-phosphor projectors. Brightness is improved from 2000 to 2500 lumens. It will throw a 120" diagonal image. And like all the new Sony displays presented support Amazon and Netflix 4K HDR streaming.

"The VPL-VZ1000ES ultra-short throw projector is a real game changer. Everyone wants a larger screen, but not everyone can find the space for it. Sony will also launch a new flat LCD series, flat means edge-lit backlight? Like its X93 pre-descessor.
The X930E/X940E series features new LED backlight driving technology alongside the X1 Extreme processor, Slim Backlight Drive+. The Slim Backlight Drive+, an evolution of Slim Backlight Drive, is a further improved grid-array backlighting system in a slim form factor which allows for even more precise local dimming control. With its quad-edge LED structure and X-tended Dynamic Range™ PRO local dimming and boosting technology, it brings superior brightness and exceptional contrast – in fact it will deliver 10 times the XDR contrast* of conventional LED TV. The X940E features a full-array boosting and dimming backlight for precision contrast and incredible brightness.
The XBR-X930E/X940E series also features the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme, which offers 40% more real-time processing power than Sony's 4K Processor X1. The processor also takes all content and improves it to near 4K HDR quality. With object-based HDR remaster, the TV can detect, analyze and optimize each object in the picture individually to adjust the overall contrast for a more natural and realistic picture.
Both the new XBR-X930E/X940E and XBR-A1E BRAVIA OLED series TV will support Dolby Vision™, the HDR format from Dolby Laboratories, which when paired with Sony's unique technologies will further enrich the visual experience.
Both series also will be powered by Android TV.
The X800 UHD Blu-ray player will follow this spring.
Sony's first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player allows customers to experience the full breadth of what Sony's 4K ecosystem has to offer. The UBP-X800 Player is compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray as well as video streaming in 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range (HDR), for greater detail, brightness and contrast that fully captures the movie, TV show, or game as it was meant to be seen and heard. The UBP-X800 provides Ultra HD Blu-ray playback with wide color space BT.2020, which offers twice the color range of existing conventional Blu-ray players and HDR is up to 100 times dynamic range to enjoy realistic picture quality like never before. The UBP-X800 is also a great match to Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X® object- audio compatible receivers, for the most immersive home theater experience possible.
In addition to support for Ultra HD Blu-ray, the UBP-X800 utilizes a Sony developed Precision HD drive to help maintain consistent performance with virtually every optical disc format, including DVD Video and DVD Audio; CD and Super Audio CD; and Blu-ray 3D, and BD-ROM media in additional to almost any format available via USB.
The player further incorporates a variety of video codecs that can deliver 4K streaming from video streaming services such as Netflix.
