  • CES 2017: BenQ launches W1600UST with 100" screen LED?! projector TV

BenQ unveiled W1600UST with 100” Ambient Light Reflection Screen, a brand-new way for families to enjoy an expansive big-screen entertainment experience untethered by conventional limitations of LED TVs. Of course two piece front projection TV s with ambient light reflecting screens have been around since the 1940, the Saba Telerama Schauinsland, being an early example, complete with a parabolic silver screen upto 3 meters. However the last few years the concept has seen a bit of a comeback.

The BenQ Brings a new LED light source to the segment. The only way to get sufficient lumens out of LED for living room applications is the Philips HLD LED light engine. A light source implemented in the BenQ X12000 XPR 4K DLP pojector.

Or is it actually a regular lamp projector:

Lamp Type‎ 240W‎ the specsheet lists.

However it was announced as an LED:

"W1600UST delivers long-lasting DLP picture quality with precise colors and razor-sharp clarity coupled with a maintenance-free LED light source".

    Combined with its boasted eco-consciousness.

The Ricoh optics and form factor and look of the exterior suggest this is based on the same chassis as some of the commecial Ricoh UST projectors. That are used with the same 100" gray UST screen panel as used by ViewSonic with its Coretronic based LASER projectors.

The traditional lamp seems to be far more likely, there have been two announcements, tracing back, one mentioning LED, the other optimized lamp life. The specsheet listing 3300 ANSI Lumens, and 240W lamp, settles the matter. A streightforward Ricoh rebadge.

Powered by ultra short throw projection, W1600UST becomes the aesthetic centerpiece for the modern living room providing all-encompassing digital entertainment in a healthy and eco-conscious manner.

Its ultra short throw range allows families to enjoy each other’s company comfortably without concern for casting shadows on the pristine image, with every spectacular Full HD detail crisply rendered by W1600UST’s premium quality Ricoh optical lenses.

Featuring multiple HDMI ports, AV inputs, and MHL capability, W1600UST becomes an instant multimedia center for source devices including Blu-rays, game consoles, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. W1600ST instantly turns on whenever a digital HDMI or analog VGA source is detected, making it a familiar everyday entertainment hub for educational videos, movies, and even video games.

When a source is not detected, W1600UST powers down as part of BenQ exclusive SmartEco Technology, which works to conserve the environment as well as family budgets while simultaneously delivering uncompromised brightness, exquisite picture quality, optimized lamp life with reduced lamp usage.
