The  Quested LT' series which have now entered the HT Fray as the result of a 7 year ,6 million dollar 4 (Moons) project, R&D research effort (where the end object was to take transient response, clarity, fidelity and Fatigue minimization to the limit), a trial and error effort where we heard the best sounding track: Despicable Me FUN FUN FUN, traced it to it's scoring suite, went to Hans Zimmer studios first and then upon realizing it only sounded good at 12 feet, commissioned a 22.10 channel megasystem where it would recreate that sound at 19 feet. This is where we discovered this miracle of sound using a trinnov 16 channel processor in 3d remap with overhead sounds capable of recreating a traninwreck's intensity.

Thus in doing above we have TAUGHT Quested about Home Theater at it's maximum scale and are developing next gen specialized speakers to take home theater to the next level: ATMOS PREMIER RANK.

When went to the Dolby Atmos facility gravity premiere we loved the psycho-acoustics and only imagined what it would sound like with the proper reproduction kit, this is the paradigm shift...

Initial home Atmos focus groups that visited the same have noted the deficiencies harshness and brittleness of their audio reproduction chain. Thus reinforcing my initial discovery about the inadequacies of the reproduction chain.

Then Jeff the Bland's Lepetiti Trianon 2.0 became the test bed for the first time in the US.

He has been raving about the sound. This is what he said :

    Peter,
Thanks for your advice and recommendation on the Questeds. Super loud, but clear and non fatiguing. Incredible impact. You were absolutely right on all accounts!!

DIRAC really did a super nice job. A slow process as it requires a lot of computing power I learned. I think Carl did 6 or 9 sweeps of all 13 channels.

With Peter as my go between, I found the folks at Quested very responsive. The order was customized to my exact needs - right down to the mounts. They even labeled the amplifiers on the box and with clear labeling on the amplifier itself so I knew which speaker each was powering.

The output on these seems endless and the sound... so sweet. None of the fizz of my old compression drivers.

My predictions from last year have been just proven, let's stop lollygagging, dragging our feet and do these systems RIGHT!!!

              "Success!

I really like AURO-3D. We started working right after lunch and didn't wrap until late, late night early morning. However it was very much worth the effort. We had 6 active subwoofers in that room arranged as 2 x mono with BM. I convinced Mark Seaton to turn off the DSP correction that he usually applies to his subs and he gracefully complied. Dirac did a great job. We measured the results using a TEF measurement system that Mark had brought. We were pleased to discover that the subs were flat to 5Hz in front and flat to 10Hz in back at reference levels. You just don't get better than that!

Those Quested loudspeakers melded well with Mark's subwoofers. The dynamics and detail of the end product was truly outstanding. We listened to several samples from live concert recordings to U571 and War of the Worlds. It was all good. Did I mention that I really like AURO?? Ha, ha ...

              Best Regards,
              Carl Huff"
              Peter,

These were your recommendations. You are a savant! I am so pleased. Worth all the effort! I know why you service the tip top! My system is truly cutting edge now. You really nailed it with the Questeds. We listened well past reference and no fatigue and incredible dynamics and dialog.

Well, Auro is the real deal. I'll have more to say later but the Quested/DATASAT combo is a winner and DTS MA 7.1 / TRUE HD 7.1 simply doesn't it anymore.

We had a very good install last night with Mark Seaton and Carl Huff working 12 hours to dial in the system.

As good as the equipment is, the before and after listening with the two calibrators is what clearly made the difference.

I am so pleased, I'm actually still in disbelief as to to the sound in the room. I can't imagine better - anywhere. What a job those two did. Marks' subwoofers are a true benchmark.

              Peter,
Thanks for your advice and recommendation on the Questeds. Super loud, but clear and non fatiguing. Incredible impact. You were absolutely right on all accounts!!

Jeff's room got HT Of The Month: September 2014.

Well, all is in and am using AURO 3D upmixing for my 13.6 system. The AMT / Ribbons has the sensitivity that rivals compression drivers (and, thus, the output) but an more air and a sweeter tip top. They are fantastic!

The only downside I've encountered is the lack of vertical dispersion. If you stand up or are well above the vertical spread of the AMT, you lose some high frequencies. I rarely stand during movies ... so, small issue for me!

I love the accolades but let's pay attention to what he had to say tonight about the ribbon lt-8's:

Peter the room is terrific! I feel very good about my purchase / investment in Quested. The ribbons have huge, effortless output without the fizz at the tip top. The Auro upmixing is so good, I wonder if Dolby can even improve on it.

The room sounds magnificent and with the low, low noise floor, the dynamic range is really unlike anything I could imagine.

Thanks for the advice and service!

I apologize as I've been short on sleep trying to wrap up orders that need shipping before cedia. So typos galore and I'll have to return to edit redaction but let me get the pictures in and the thoughts down.

Before we delve into the higher power upcoming AMT based lt8-is passive and active suitable for LCR let's look at the Lt8-is with ribbon tweeter. It and the LT-24 sibling seen above are the two most affordable Quested speakers, and for surround (based on my initial impression) they pack a punch, Jeff is just reinforcing that. They play as surround speakers12 feet away to 105db (rated), but in reality it's more. They are a big bang for the buck and may be just the right surround speaker in many room. The amt version is being discussed a) for a compact LCR with a stockier rectangular box and the ltis-8 is a shallow mount to hang on walls or build inside walls and ceilings. With the amt you can gain an additional 7 decibels. It will be 5-6 months before the passive amt version is finalized, the crossover design is deliberate.

Despite the fact that this speaker I characterized as the best surround speaker i ever heard (something Jeff is retransmitting a year later) Curt from Trinnov found out that if you had the tweeter up,  there was a cancellation spot below the speaker, as the speaker was designed for upside down surround wall mount where the dispersion downward dispersion is great. I due to Cut's comments started pressing for a version with more power and even wider dispersion, that is where roger went into amt seek mode. Hes got three different pattern dispersion availables, not enough info there.

In my moscow installation due to the frame of the speaker grille

This one will play 115-120 decibels but being closer to the MLP this is Craken and Godzilla Rank surround speaker.

Besides Jeff being tickled pink testimonials with the LT-10's as main center right, look at the AMT advantages as described by the engineer that took the challenge to sound reinforce Royal Albert Hall for classic instruments & voice and licked it!

"According to Kinsella, it goes without saying
that you can get more sound pressure from a compression driver but it
doesn't sound as good at high output levels. The AMT principle
means the impulse response is better than that of a compression
driver, so that your sense of hearing does not become fatigued during longer periods of listening and it is also seemingly easier
to evaluate the information on offer. The audience no longer
notices the loudspeaker. Instead, they can concentrate better on
the music. Unfortunately, it is difficult to record such properties
                    in a data sheet.

Here is the home atmos max capacity diagram.

They show floor speakers with a three tiered cinema what gives?

Obviously these will be wall speakers but the orientation aspect brings interesting repercussions for speaker mounts design and acoustical treatments.

That has been eating at me too.  They (Dolby) know ear level surrounds won't work in commercial theaters, but add it to the spec for home use.  They should mention that if the speaker is just going to be aimed directly so many obstacles, that it is preferred to raise them up.  At least, that is what I would think would be the better option.

In the Award thread Art Son brought up interest in Atmos but is reticent to spoil aesthetics.

                            Jeff says:

Yes. Atmos seems to be counterintuitive to room esthetics. I worried about that as well.

But in fact, at the lighting level I leave my room at for pre-movie, take your seats time, the speakers really blend into the ceiling. In fact the firs time my wife went into the room after the heights were installed, she didn't even notice them.

Granted, to me, there are compromises in esthetics, I just went with it as I know once these multi channel sound tracks roll out, I'll want to experience them. Your room is beautiful. I'm sure you're quite concerned. That said, if you add, I'm sure they'll be discrete in terms of esthetics.

Now, in listening to AURO 3D, the 13.x channel configuration. Does pay out in terms of audio pleasure.

Presented with the newly released Home Atmos directives, that brought the above puzzler of a diagram , (and no one obsesses more than me on the 3d imaging thing because I want to hear an invasion of the personal space that I heard at gravity, where sounds piroutted around my head, through the gut and one object parked right behind my ear) I have a notion that 24 channels will be required to achieve this level of resolution and fully expect it to be absent from the 9.2.4 demos at cedia.

Perhaps the trinnovs 3d cal microphone xyz precision will help to that effect. Well see.

In any event today I comissioned some 3d rederings applicable to aegir and skoll II. all the speakers behind a wall to ceiling screen or the heights attached to the top of the screen and the widths to it's side.
