There must be some algorithms out there that could remap the colours to the wider gamut, or perhaps some LUT box. When Philips still mades TVs it had algorithmes to remap rec.709 onto its LCDs native gamut. So people have been working on this for many years. And for the print industry remapping to and from (in)visible spectrum colours is available in commersial products it seems. But finding a ready made solution or at least one orderable from some-one, might proof to be difficult. I don't see such LUT-boxes advertised.

Of course stills should be easily made but serve no other purpose than showing the projector is able to show certain colors.

Looks like there will be a demonstration of the Christie unit with dolby cinema contrast but HT inputs etc in October.

I also received an invitation this week.

As for the HT inputs, I received no information. I did hear there will be a product early in 2019, but received no details. I sense Christie does not have a successful track record in HT so it is not even sure it wants to position it as a "home theater" product.

Personally I would expect the Zeiss Velvet to be the main target. With the Rockwell Colins simulation projector(s), as another interesting market segment. Which Carl Zeis is now also addressing with the flat screen version(s) of the Velvet.

DLP vendors have lost a lot of this business to LCoS vendors like JVC and Sony.

Planetaria might not need an HDMI 2.0B with HDCP 2.2. As they already have alternative content projection. Where black levels are of less importance. Searching the website I found an announcement, I posted a long time ago, that Christie is already supplying R&S planetaria with Boxer projectors to replace existing Digistar planetarium projectors. retaining the Zeiss Starprojector. I understand it is about a four hour drive for me . Christie had wanted to demo in the middle of the week but my work just would have made that unworkable so they agreed to Friday that I had off. I asked that they go to a larger screen  (16') since anyone wanting this would be very unlikely to have a screen in mind any smaller than that.

Nigel from Arrow AV in the UK is coming ,I understand, and will be doing more objective work with measurements that I can't ,which is fantastic. My plan is to just take demo material that I'm very familiar with to look at.

Hi Art, Thanks for giving me the heads up.

I'm trying to see if I can make it too.

You should bring the Martian to check out the planet color, also the movie life on the third act has a scene of a spacecraft crossing the screen from right to left. That scene was the Achilles heel for the Vegas Dolby Cinema as so many stars washed out the contrast, keep that in mind. I can look up the chapter.

So is this a one projector or a two projector thing?

The more compact the better for me at this point. If it is the large duo im afraid I will have to pass attendance. The irony is Im in Toronto this weekend.

I presumed it would be more compact, as that was the stated reason at the time it would take three years to re-engineer.

Yes, please! Correct I saw the one at NAB 4 years ago, time flies, Art please check out the martian if you can, the color of the planet on the original unit was more mustardy than what it looks like on an HDR TV.

It is only an hour drive from the Toronto Audio fest I can be on site at 1:30 pm onwards.

The projector is about 30" tall, wide and 40" long so it isn't the smallest projector by any means. The Martian is in my list of stuff already so I appreciate anything you might recommend. I have a couple of very low APL titles as well to go . I have no equipment to measure so for me it's all subjective stuff.

Nigel is coming to do measurements so I'm glad of that.

So it is not the new internal laser series size CP4325, more like a classic DCi with the external laser modules, or the Mirage (based) they now sell as Eclipse for 120 (240?) fps DCi movies. An external chiller? Or is it self-contained?

Lots of stuff there not sure how to answer all since model numbers are not familiar to me. It has external laser modules  and is based on a current model but with the  dolby cinema capability with contrast is my understanding. I have some information that I had to sign an NDA for however.

After the 26th I will write up what I experienced as Nigel has stated he will as well.

I was wondering about that Art. I did not ask for nor sign any NDA, so I don't have much in detailed info. But I was told no Dolby processing, that's probably one of the reasons it took so long to get to the market ready product stage. Tough two years ago around IBC time there was talk about different technology than Dolby under works.
