Light steering does nothing for the low end for DLP the Christie technology hits it out of the park. Velvet had <2000 lumens this has over 15 times that . I frankly think we are lucky they are even working on this. They obviously have put in a lot of time yet had to use what they had to come up with this. Looking at it one can see that it employed all technologies and even hardware for the most part that they already had on the shelf. Getting one of these or a brother for a home is a long shot based on the fact that their business model isn't going that way.

It will be very helpful for people that can afford the Pr. when Christy add the possibility to playback DCI Content.
First some people can get DCI Content and like to playback it and second much more important is the possibility that some day if you sale such an expensive Projector that there will be a market in the cinema as well.
For sample the 4 Cinema DLP Pr. I had in the past was all sold not to home cinema user it always was sale into Cinema Market and there it was 4 times very easy to sale with not much lost or at least very little lost compare to home cinema products.
For sample the last 2 Barco B32 I sold for just 20% less after over 4 years of use.
Impossible to do this in home cinema.
This Christie Pr. is very very expensive and everybody that are smart should calculate before order for what amount you can sale it after some years of use and the option to playback DCI Content will made this look a lot better.

So right once again. There probably won't be a lot of these sold into homes of people I hang with.

Art the technology that Christie using in this pr. cannot do Laser 3D as the original 2 stack Dolby pr. can do.
It is simply not possible technically.
But of course this pr. should offers 3D shutter glasses with all the disadvantages this systems have.
Also it will be a big question if the infinity cr. will be there by using shutter glasses because this glasses all
kills a lot of the super good blacks!
Best shutter you can buy can show maximum 6000:1 cr.!
I have test it.
And forget so see true 4K resolution with it.
Even best shutter glasses have blurry picture compare to 6P Laser 3D because of different artefacts polarizer all have see my very old postings at AVS.
The by far best 3D system is a true Dolby Vision setup with 2 pr. the second best is my Barco Thor and as the original Dolby Vision is not for sale the Barco Thor is the best you can buy till today for 3D.
As the Christie is not out jet the Barco Thor is today the best money can buy.
I not like to downgrade the Christie Pr. as I am interested in it as well but when I compare my Thor to the Christie I know that the Christie just show much better blacks.
One the other side my Barco can do 100% of rec. 2020 color that the Christie will not can do.
As black this is an so important parameter we all looking for since very long time I am in contact with Christie about it already.
Let’s see ….
3D the Barco Thor have a big advantage over ever other Pr. in the market that you can buy.
The Christie will have big advantage over the Barco Thor in black but as I say only in 2D.
So best will be to use the Christie for all what is 2D and the Barco with 3D but then you look at the price for this 2 projectors …...

I read there is 3D support, and the mirage version will do 120 FPS. Wolfgang thanks for explaiing the downsides to the active 3D.
By itself it can not do frequency filtered 3D, as it only has a single set of RGB channels, one videochannel. So, one would need two, for Infitec 3D, like the original Dolby 3D/DVPS. Same super $$$ category as Christie Barco team. BTW, Paco posted eleswhere that the Dolby is now available for lease, perhaps an alternative?
This was also the issue for the Cinemeccannica That did have an 6P source, but it went through one fiber into a single videosignal projector.

Wolfgang,
I understand your take on things and your love for 3D is a big deal. I'm one who literally doesn't care for or about 3D at all. For me the best possible 2D image is what counts. I honestly believe that if this is a similar case for others as it is for me they would have seen as I did that when one walked into the room one didn't have to think about it hear specs or watch tons of demo material it was like a quick knock out in a fight. It looked like a 20' wide OLED.

I have not any doubt that the picture is outstanding as I have seen under not so good conditions Dolby Vision and we will get in Munich just 30 min. driving time the first Dolby Vision Cinema soon.
I bet the picture you saw is better than a Dolby Vision Cinema as there we can shut down the lights and do not have exit light and so on.
I also very sure that this Pr. had a better black than the original Dolby Vision doublestack in Cinemas not only because of the room condition I mean the Pr. itself can be a lot better.
Dont know what number it was in realty but if a pr. hits 1 or 2 mil.:1 cr. black should be not an issue anymore.
And how knows may this high number was right…..
BTW the OLEDs had not Infinity cr. but enough to have a perfect black.
For me the question is should I spend so much money just to have a 100% black visible or can I live with a medium good black?
For sample yesterday we watch the BD Version from the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
There was not any so dark sequence that I complain about my black level as the combination from 1000:1 ansi cr. with 6.300:1 on off cr. looks very nice.
The main difference is the black level where the Barco Thor had a only a medium good one but how many % of a average movie show this 100% or near 100% black?
I and other thing it is in the 1 or 2% range where Infinity black is nice to have.
As I have a 77" 4K OLED from LG since many years I know how it can look and yes you are right the Christie Pr. will looks like a giant OLED +++ without any reflections+++.
Also important is when you talk about black level for how long the 100% black picture was at the screen.
Your eye needs some secound to open the pupil.
When you watch sequences that show very black and very white material very quick after each other many people told me WOW it looks like infinity black.
Other than watch for over 2 min. the beginning sequence from 2001 UHD where almost 3 min. the picture was 100% black and only music was there.
Here you can see after some 30 sec. where your pupil is for sure full open that the 6.300:1 produce only a light gray image and not a good black.
This is all gone with the Christie for sure and this is the reason why I looking into it.
Big question for me is can I afford it?
If no than it was nice to know that something exists that can show a perfect black if yes I need to see it.

Nice Wolfgang ! I hope you find it to your liking , difficult to imagine that you would not. I took along one of the worst looking scenes in any film I'd ever seen on a projector that couldn't do over 5000:1 sequential contrast. The Christie just hammered it. I personally could find no weaknesses to the unit.

Art my Barco Thor had now after some adjustment 6400:1 as an average from the whole picture on off cr. and almost 1000:1 Ansi Cr.
The Thor had in the corners more cr. than in the center.
This is opposite to most other Pr. in the market that have much less good cr. in the sides and corners.
This together with my new screen improve the visible cr. a lot.
Your Sony 5000 should have about 13.000:1 on off and 320:1 Ansi Cr. in the center.
Here a may interesting development for you and others.
Sony have a new Pr. that is almost same size than the 5000 just a bit higher.
The spec is 10.000:1 on off but I am sure you can bring this unit easy up to about 15.000:1 or even higher with an additional Iris in the lens that kills may 30 % lumen.
Looks like there is not any information out about Lumen out jet but I hear that this are in the 10 to 12.000 lumen.
