New Christie large venue

I got the offer from Christie some time ago.

I will be not publish the number in a public forum but what I can say that the number I got is insane high “a LOT more than a Barco Thor” !
I have asked for a 15.000 lumen version with 6 from possible 12 laser as this is what I have with my Barco Thor.

I agree with Christie to talk again when the Pr. is ready for shipment in 3-4 months from now and see again what is possible.
I hear a rumor that likely some time later this pr. will get some changes to made it a bit cheaper but "a bit cheaper" is may still too expensive.
Let’s see when Christie will be ready to ship……

A big problem as I post already is that because there is not any DCI Content possible to playback that you will have a huge problem when someday you like to sale it.
All my Barco DCI Pr. in the past the DP 2000 my double stack two B32 are going into Cinemas when I sale it.
I not lost much money because there is a huge demand on this units but opposite to this Christie as it cannot playback DCI Content and possible it will be never can do it as
Christie need to protect this Dolby Technology from coming into Cinemas.
This made it nearly impossible to sale this unit.
Homecinema people will not pay so much.

I can sale my Barco Thor easy to homecinema user as price is not this insane high and if homecinema people will not buy it with some 1 hour work the Barco Thor is
back to a 30.000 lumen DCI 6P Laser Cinema Pr. by changing the Lens and one Iris in the light engine.
So may Barco Thor is easy to sale but as I post already as the 3D is likely better than the Christie I need to keep it.

Great point  ! After seeing it I was star struck to be sure but simply stated I can't afford it. In some ways the insane price was a relief. If it had been lower but still somewhat out of my price range I would have made other lifestyle changes to get one, some of these would have bordered on stupidity.

I actually was accused of being addicted to this stuff by someone who I never would have expected to make such a comment. Perhaps he is right but ..

Will the super expensive DCi projector turn out to be cheaper than this one afterall. Especially if the single projector ste-up is happening at Dolby, as Peter says?

He says Dolby has a single projector it is installing in new Dolby Cinema's. Indication, in the past, for the dual set-up was $1 million+. So it needed to come down to extend the market for Dolby Cinema, a smaller, easier to install, single projector would definitely help in growing the DC penetration.

But then 3D will be not as good as with a double Pr. solution!
Half light output less good motion and depends on if the use shutter 3d glasses or polarizer glasses other problems i had report already about as well.
Or they may going 6P laser 3D?

As there was a this moment the first Dolby Cinema in Germany under construction just 30 min. away in Munich I will be soon can see what they have there.
Original they like to finish it before Christmas but I hear that opening is delayed.

So lets see if Dolby is really move to single Pr. solution for there Dolby Cinemas.

I have hear a different story what Dolby further plans likely are but this is nothing for a public forum.

He said 6P, one projector. If it is a large install they may still use dual head system, as in the past Dolby has said that they use 'the brightness required' implying Dolby might use more than the 2 x 60K lumens Christie usually offers, for very Large installs.

Till today it was unclear witch cinema the will convert to a Dolby Vision Cinema or if they may build a new one.
But I hear that they will not convert the biggest Cinema with the over 20 meter wide screen.

I hear from some normally good informed sources that Cinema 1 with the third biggest screen will be convert to a Dolby Cinema.
This cinema had in the past about 375 seats and a 15,8 x 6,6 meter big 2,4:1 screen.
Don’t know if the rebuild the room that they can put a bigger screen inside but I guess not.
So at this screen size btw “about same size the Dolby Cinema in Salzburg Austria have ” I think they can run it with a single pr. setup with not any problem.
A True 60.000 lumen Pr. will be in 3D about 15 FTL with a 1.0 Gain screen so bright enough.

Disadvantage half-light out (that is not a problem for screens up to 16 meters) and small addition motion bug in 3D as L and R 3D picture was not at the same time on the screen.
Advantage almost half cost for a Dolby Vision Setup and this counts a lot!

A single Dolby Vision Pr. with 6P is more or less what I have with my Barco Thor except the insane high on off cr.

As for the other direction, I think emmisive displays is inevitable, but there are plenty of quality issues to be addressed with LED, so this premium offer from Dolby can only remain premium, if Dolby comes with something that exceeds the competition, as it did with the projection system.

The Dolby Cinema projector is now 6p, the part to integrate the sets of lasers is made by Dolby. It requires a large deposit and 100k a year. Any Rich Germans want to change their new Thor? Uwe? Happy New Year.

Received confirmation it will not be at ISE. I also asked about off-site demo, but there was no mention on that.

It would be great to see this make a public viewing. Maybe its best this does not happen, it may stop competitor projector sales in its tracks. I do not think it will make an appearance.
