I see I/ITSEC is back to December from October/November the past few years. Also in Orlando, it is where the DPI 8K saw its debut, a year and a half ago, this year the Barco FS40 HLD solid state projector. Key show for the (military) training and simulation world http://www.iitsec.org/. It all depends on when it is ready for show(ing-off).

In the end it was New York City, at launch client the Hayden Planetarium. Not that Christie announced it, but there was a joint press day to celebrate the planetariums upgrade, and to commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the moon landing.

It is branded the Eclipse, and the first six units have been delivered, installed and taken into use at the New York Planetarium and Science Museum.

Chris Chinnock has some nice pictures and further details following an in depth conversation with Christie, and Planetarium staff responsible for the implementation at the New York event.

He reports the screen is 0.38 gain, the planetarium following the upgrade from  the temporary RGB laser projectors used over the past few years, offers 10:1 ANSI checkerboard pattern contrast, compared to the 3.5:1 contrast prior to the upgrade to the six Eclipse projector HDR solution. Refering to the on-off contrast figures measured by Arrow-AV of over 20 million to one on a flat screen, in a dark room.

Box Office pro reports that Planetarium President Ellen Futter claims: "The projector’s contrast ratio went from 7,000 to one to greater than one million to one, which means visitors will see both the brightest and darkest images in the universe as never before, making the Hayden not only the most advanced planetarium in the world, but the most advanced planetarium ever attempted”.

Possible this Pr. will never hit the market.
So far I know you can order this unit how it was at the Demo Art was with this insane high price that no one will pay.
The cheaper version that was talked about some time is not ready and no one so far know if and when and for what price this unit will be at the market if at all.

I watch the Samsung LED Wall in a Cinema.
WOW looks supergood.
No gabs no refection visible in the running movie just a super sharp picture insane brightness in combination with a true infinity black.
And the best was I saw clips in 2D 2K only no HDR no 4K !!!
Also 3D looks great but there was some small bugs in motion.
The show Real from Arri in 4K true HDR must be an eye catcher.
I spoke with some that saw it and they say this is compare to a 2K DCI Movie day and night.
So with the right source material the Samsung LED Wall can do a perfect picture.

Dolby Vision is a upgrade compare to a normally cinema for sure but Samsung LED Wall is the “BIG” quality jump we all are looking for.

I think Dolby/Christie know this but I hope they come with a cheaper version of this infinity cr. projector to the market as it will be a nice upgrade for me till this Walls come down in price.

I agree SMD walls are phenomenal having seen the LA Post house with the ONYX. The incredible news I found A new one that looks similar to this but 1.2 pixel pitch with a very high fill factor 11x10 and it has a translucent plastic coating with absolutely zero tiling visibility and no reflection (IT INVITES YOU INTO THE IMAGE), plus it runs very cool to the touch; Like the Samsung Onyx it is not doing 1,000,000:1 that Cled, LG and S The Wall do, but the lack of reflectivity on the screen, NOR the tiling seam visibility that is also a byproduct of the glossy coating endemic to ALL deep black microled nor the 35 Celsius at one meter that S The Wall puts out in front of the screen.


SO THE PRICES ON THESE NEXT GEN A-List SMD'S HAVE DROPPED BY HALF. 27.5% per inch the cost of the Wall.Under a dollar an inch and a bit better than the Onyx and very reputable brand.


The era of videophile wallscreens starts now. Super affordable. You can see this screen in the Microsoft Store in London opened this July 11.

I'm trying to convince my Penthouse client to ditch the wall and go with the cheaper screen that to my eyes is the first videophile wallscreen, the 3D does have the strongest negative parallax i have ever experienced, it literally automatically ducked my head out of the way of lunging objects.

@Wolfgang 200-300K buys one a fair amount of LED surface these days, so even a lower cost version might not be too interesting from a financial perspective, considering it is to be installed as a temporary measure. It could be simply be too late for this market segment. I told them years ago to replicate the original Dolby model, working with one (or more if workable) of the global vertically integrated planetarium specialists (market seems to get less integrated to this casual observer), as that would require no or little engineering effort on part of Christie, combined with a quick market entry and penetration, and it would provide an alternative to Zeiss.

Moneywise it would be better to keep the Thor and jump into LED a bit later. Considering the price drop and quality jump the past half a decade. Coming from 'a million dollar TV down to an 100K TV'.

With Optoma, NEC, InfiLED and others selling it as a pre-packaged commodity that can come in two pieces to be put together in a single morning or afternoon by two trained installers. The Million and more category is still there, but no longer all there is, and one would get more for that massive lay-out, the mass commercial market is getting going.

I think the same way.
This is likely also an option for me but depends on how long it will be take an Infinity Pr. from Christie is may something I will still consider as this make it easy for me to change and upgrade.
Just change the pr. is a huge benefit with my perfect screen and this unbelievable sound I have now with the speakers at the place they should be.
If I going with the very bright version I can have also a nice bright HDR that can possible compete with LED Walls or at least a bit.
This Pr. will be for sure cheaper to buy easer to setup and for sure you never see under what circumstances whatever not any bug like panels reflections and the sound is something that will be better for sure.
Also the size of the screen will be bigger as a LED Wall need some space behind the screen see picture and on the side I need some space to going to the back of the LED Wall.
Both will shrink the size.
Speakers will be shrink the size even more!

Right now I can sit down and wait for this Christie and if the come to the marked I can then decide.

I still love my Barco Thor.
With the new V6 Screen the much improved sound and Picture (size is bigger and 0 speckling visible with may some better cr. visible) it was always a pleasure to watch a good movie with it.
Dolby Vision in Cinema have just a bit better cr. as there the 1 Mil. to 1 cr. is killed with Exit Sign and other lighting to only possible 20 to 30K and this is better what I have at home but not infinity like a LED Wall can show.
At home this can be different as I have not any light in my cinema that can kills the cr.
Also I had no port hole glass that kills the picture a lot resolution cr. and many other parameters.

Wolfgang would vomit if he saw those pieces of excrement, Trust me i have vetted all LCD, of the SMD there is only ONE brand that is ULTRA MTF great color accuracy videophile grade. And it certainly puts the big three MICROLED guys to shame in most areas. Because seam visibility, reflection and excessive resolution seem to detract from a high MTF image. So in my view the best one is also among the cheapest but the other cheap ones are absolute crap.

The NEC (S[quadrat]) aren't too bad. The sub 100K Optoma's, Vivitek/Detas and so on didn't demo too favorably. But these do show the market is commodifying, and widening. With the better products also coming down in price.

Samsung for instance has been flashing the wall, but offering 1.26mm pitch and up SMD RGB LED display. That's the reality, and where the market lies. The Samsung 110" HD Demo was one of the best looking ones at ISE two years ago. It took Nigel's word for it when he said the Sony 100" ZD9 LCD looked better, a little over half the cost, offering 4K and higher peak brightness. We are a year and a half along so things should be improved by now.


So Unilumen moved to flip chips from regular SMD. A full ambient light demo was at the ISE booth but the Chines sales ladies couldn't tell me anything. Later found out it wasn't COB, but flip chip. Was that at Infocomm this year?

Actually flip chips also known as Chip Scale Package (CSP) LEDs, that come in a package almost as small as the LED itself, are usually used in Chip on Board arrangements.

Luckily I know enough about all this.
So there is not any must to any advice or help to decide what is best for me.
My eyes and my knowledge will tell me what I want and what I will buy and when.
But some Infos are welcome "from some" forum members.

Of course!! Just correcting Donald. Some may find that the v6 fabric shows best on the Thor better than on any other projector (I do after carrying the fabric around cedia and cinemacon) when used in front of the entry level Christie p3 laser, it did not interact well, the Christie manager made a face like he did not like. That is the only comment. Auf....

Just picking up on your 'might not make it to market' observation. It might be too late*, as it was for many great display technologies, any-one remember SED/FED/FET...

We have seen dual plane LCD monitors from Eizo, Canon, and Flanders Scientific for a number of years now, but now BOE has an 65" panel and HiSense has said it is going to market it, all at 5-10% of the 30" production monitors price available so far, i.e. premium TV territory, so we will see where that leads.

Art, as the planetarium engineers were quoted they first saw it in 2014!

Wolfgang not all LED wall need room at the back. The Samsung Onyx does as 'no front accessibilty' is part of the existing DCi qualification requiremnts. But no-one will be able to access all the numerous i/o from the front unnoticed, is what Samsung told us at the ISE demo. So they were working to change that in the future LED DCi requirements. That would make life a whole lot simpler (and cheaper) for them they added. Front servicacibility has been the rage, then norm in commercial fine pitch indoor led for a number of years now.
