  • BEST PROJECTED IMAGE FOR HT AT CINEMACON 2019!!!!

Some of you may know that I am and have been the NEMESIS of the SONY 5000 for it's banding and ridiculously Blue Shifted color.

Meet the Evil sony 5000's Godly twin, It was shown on a matte white 15 foot wide.

That is what makes my pronouncement the Biggest Compliment SONY SXRD has ever obtained. Match this projector with a tightened IRIS like Mr. Pixels makes and bump it from 10K:1 cr. to 15k:contrast and match it with the only screen option that will become the norm on the market for this unit gain 3 NO HOTSPOT no artifact , ultra perfect acoustically transparent (to die of how clean the sound breezes trough specially voice) it's like no screen, and voila a monster large screen sized really reference image. Who would have thought?

Yes the new SONY 5000 chassis based with true DCI color and cinema auto calibration and 12 bit and for the very first time in history SXRD hits almost all of the points a true videophile will want south of 75K surpassing most reference criteria.

I have not slept and just arrived from the red-eye. The thought that immediately comes to mind : 35mm. Uniformity , gamut, contrast, clean as a whistle image.

I almost passed on seeing it after the show closed, good thing i did.

Greg Taker and I where going to order series 4 Barcos until we saw the big 10k cinema unit, that had black and white zone miss uniformities but looked great ( the very first time that SXRD looks good to my eye), yet they mentioned the little one. It may only be 2,500 lumens but the color enough is worth it.

The things I do for you guys.   Just when I had pulled out of projection it pulls me back in. I will try to organize a CEDIA thing so that you guys finally understand that you need an optical screen to redirect the light to the audience. P3 comes at a cost. But otherwise why bother pissing the money away on something that does not look anywhere near this beast.

So this is the SRX-R608 initially only marketed and sold in China, as entry-level DCi/cinema projector? It is that case we see from the front. But that one should do more lumens, right?

The 5000 follow-on was demoed privately at ISE. I was not invited to sign such an NDA, I did not see it. But I did pick up around the show that it exists, was in the old case, had double the brightness, and high-bit depth, not the 8 Bit the WV-5000 is infamous for. Better colour and was still a long time to market.

Yes, The one sold in China does not have better lumens, but no big deal we are authorized to sell the replacement Ultimate screen skin to anyone with a stewart frame. Or we have the SMX masking frames for them too.

Here is a pic of the bigger high lumen cinema sxrd with 10,000 cr., the first time I have enjoyed SXRD since it's inception.

        Peter,
Just so I understand the communication ..this projector has 10,000:1 contrast and twice the lumens. Is this twice in DCI color space ? Can it be taken out of DCI color space ? I don't have access to DCI content. It does seem to be the case that to take advantage of HDR realistically we need closer to 30,000:1 also. Just stuff to consider.

          Hi Art,

They showed a big monster with 10,000cr. This can be extended handily to 15,000:1 by A.

What i saw that was amazing night and day difference is the one based on the 5,000. I have seen the 5,000 25 times and was never comfortable with the blu push i personally see in it, also the 5000 has banding, this one sacrifices some light because they drop DCI filters in it and also feature full 12 bit DCI. The difference between the 5000 is an image (sorry my opinion) i dislike very much to a sibling projector i love enough to aspire to own. This has never happened to me before. But trust me it is an amazing improvement on the 5000.

You could easily replace your stack with a stack of these and replace the stewart screen skin with a duplicate template ultimate screen fitted skin and you could achieve Nirvana. The problem with the cedia image experts is that they are not open minded to optical engineered screens. If you open your mind to the Ultimate screen and get past a 3d company pedigree stigma, you can have high gain, perfect white, is the ultimate white screen, no hotspot like the Torus (That Torus Image In Miami Beach is still a reference to out do- which is going to be a bitch to upgrade to laser this summer  because of speckle) but unlike the Torus it has better sound than the microperf and also for the Barco's it has 99 percent speckle elimination. That is why I want to bring the ultimate screen to CEDIA. A screen whose time has come. For the sony mini dcinema for it's gain with perfect evenness and for the High Contrast Barco series 4 for the speckle. Projection is pulling me back in from the Wall.

But after all the shit i have talked about the sony 5000 (because i'm fickle like that), for me to say that this is the best projected image I saw at Cinemacon this year is the biggest compliment this projector could get. from minus 85 to plus 98. Evil twin Righteous twin scenario. I am sure you will agree when you this image it's a huge upgrade.

Since working with DCI projectors the cedia industry reliance on calibrators reputation has colored individual installations, dci calibrations are exact and anyone can do them, the radiometer quality is what makes a better calibration, but otherwise DCI color calibration is automatic. A funny note Ken complemented my calibration in CEDIA 15 barco low end projector, i told him it was autocalibrated. So no offense to Ken, but the dci version has this automated calibration feature, combined with VERY ACCURATE p3 color space that is not affected by the blu laser source anywhere near the Barco blue laser units, which Barco knows i asked them "what where they thinking?", they did make up for it just now with the series 4, That p3 perfect calibration and 12 bit video and I have never seen an sxrd image look like HC 35mm.

Congratulations SONY you have converted your most virulent antagonist. Touche. Both images scaled perfectly across platforms. Both excellent. The first Time SXRD has achieved post production grade, for critical viewing.

            Art,

Sorry i missed your question, the dci color space is useful to show P3 in a rec 2020 container. D-Cinema Projectors handle a plethora of color spaces by default.

If you want 30,000:1 the only option i see is wait for the Light Steering Barco and drive the base engine low and let the light steering create the amazing specular highlights I saw. I don't believe the Christie dream rig is going to happen.

You can place an order for the light steering Barco a year from now. The new Alchemy 3 is ready to intelligently manage the projector through the hdmi in.

Maybe SONY will release the LOCOMOTIVE with dual light engines, for once I am beginning to believe they actually can perfect it.

Do you think the light steering technology will ever be part of the barco thor?  And will it be able to lower the black floor or does it only enhance specular highlights to improve contrast?

I just asked a Barco tech about this two days ago as they had their BALDER cinescope unit displayed at a show we held over the weekend and the steering tech does not lower blacks according to him, it only peaks highlights. Still, peaking highlights to the levels the steering tech seems to be able to I guess the perceived dynamics would be on the extreme side for a lot of scenes / content, but sure; adding a 4th blocking chip to produce killer black AND that light steering tech would certainly be the wet dream of any videophile out there... Let's just' hope those excellent Barco engineers can figure both out! PS! I have not yet seen the light steering in action, but based on Peter´s observations it looks very promising!

A casual review of the concept, like we did here last year, when Nigel was still around, shows it can not reduce the blackfloor, as there is no excess light dump, so all light is still in the picture. Given the limited percentage going to highlights, one can not re-direct all light as required to reduce black energy.

The Christie solution is the answer. Lets hope they get the thing to market. Not a wet dream but a boner as soon as you walk into the room.

Yes the Christie has break your neck in the dark blacks. But what size market, how many Art Sonneborns out there? And it is 3p laser, unless you get the Dolby , 6p gives you more saturated color.

Whereas the light steering is like comparing a high nit fald tv to a oled. I have both types here and find the high specular highlights more effective with HDR with the Kaleidescape strato.

So the srx-608 is taller than the 5,000 after all.

So how about the info 'obtained directly from the designer in Japan' that the SRX R-608 would do 8K lumens at DCI P3? By the looks of it the spec sheet is translated from Chinese. But like all info by Sony China to date, there is no output spec. provided. So at ISE it supposedly was double the brightness of the VW5000/GTZ270, but it actually is only half the brightness?!

While on the bigger hall at the end of the srx815p demo the american announcer responded to me 2500, i said 2500? he said i am not sure.

Later at the srx806 demo i asked, the main engineer said we do not specify an output. It could be more than a 5000 because i liked it. It seemed brighter. But did the other guy slip? Hard to tell. Also the guy that said they don't give output lumen specs also said it was a 5000. Confusing.

                              R-608 rules!!!! forget everything else.

Art, I know that i am not stating what you like to hear but trust me, there is only one projected image that is at the very top for sheer eye candy out of the box. The r608. I shall be proven right in the future like in the past with rtrinnov, and alcons, barco crt 9 inches faroudja etc etc.

Can you point to my opinion here so that the forum be aware of what is best. Trust me. Thanks!
