BARCO AIM (Automatic Image Management or MAGIC) is an amazing BRAIN that tracks everything in the projector, even how much dust particles are in the filter, but interactively balances the rgb for perfect color tracking and yes the colors are completely consistent with other Barco projectors, a feat of engineering for 3p laser as it is very hard to create and mantain HOUSE look with rgb 3p.

The Alchemy 3 is redesigned for cinema hdr and also the upcoming light streaming projector, the alchemy talks to the laser plates themselves Tom Bert told me. He is the product VP. But Ignace tokk a full 20 minutes to describe every technical feature of this amazing projector. There will be a P series at a later time. Reason why I cannot recommend the 4 series yet for HT, although it has the potential to surpass the THOR in contrast due to the native higher cr. of the chips and of the lens.

I have added 2 more people of the list of luminaires i look up to.

Seog gi Kim - Father of the Wall
Andrew Poulain - Dolby Cinema WW Director
Chris Chinnock of Display Daily (brilliant display and image tech analyst) On selfie
Ignace Rombaut VP Projectors at Barco Those laser plates are awesome!!!

Everyone else I wave down at you.

So Peter how long have you been saying TI will have an 0.98"4K DMD later this year, or next year, at least half a decade I guess, and guess what it is finally in a projector.

So is the Barco/Cicionic claim that the 4 series is so quiet it is suited for boothless operation true?

50 decibels is an improvement over 62, but still requires a hush box. The dmd moves different from the larger dmd, instead of flipping form 90 degree angle to angle, it skips to flat jump in between. I will try create a GIF animation, reminiscent of a mexican jumping bean.

BARCO has created a formidable modular projection platform to mass market projectors, next year comes the coupe de grace. Light steering. With light steering you do not need very high lumens for the bed image, last year was 3kw. Next year Barco is going to roll out self contained dual engine ( a little longer than the 4 series 10 inches) and an add on specular highlight second projector unit option for existing and series 4 Barco projectors, but you will need alchemy 3 to handle the HDR aspect. In dual projection mode an autoalignement camera will take care  of the alignment.

I tried creating a Gif of the "Mexican Jumping Bean DMD" but my shutter speed was not fast enough to capture the intermediate jump to flat that it performs. You would have seen that on the right dmd of this image. Take my word for it it jumps to flat mid tilt in order to fit while maintaining maximum image area fill.

Here is the Jumping Bean in the bottom middle position readying to jump to flat in between 90 degree flips.

So how does it compare to the projector that established this category, a little over a year ago, the Christie CP4325? Aside from the lightsteering promise. Just the projectors as they stand today?

Peter you stood there hat in hand bowing for the Boss;-), instead of Gangsta like in your earlier pictures, demure due to such performance and technical prowess?

                    Nice to see Walter again.

The hat wearing was a novelty on wednesday, i just stole the second cinionic hat on thursday.

How does it compare to the Christie, well Barco had flushed it's famous House Colorimetry when they stupidly went after Blue Phosphor, dlp Blu Phosphor is a non starter for me, sxrd can be made to work as we found out last week.

This is the return to the glorious barco color, the projector is better engineered than the Christie, for example when Barco combines Blue plates to gain more output it uses a polariser to combine the 2 plates, this assures that the blue light is coming out of the engine assembly de-polarized, the christie does not come out depolarised, part of my 25 minute briefing by Ignace.

That being said the .98 chip has more speckle potential than the 1.38, although Barco has worked hard to dynamically tone it down with voltages or pulses or whatever they are doing with AIM.

I believe the p version of the 4 series will be a great projector. I do not why? but they had to modify the Alchemy in part to work with the laser plates, interesting, that level of total integration is mind blowing and exclusive to Barco.
