  • Laser Output Decay Rate

Just looking for information on laser output decay rate. I know that we are told that x or y projector has 20,000 or 30,000 hours etc but I've not seen a graphic description of the rate of decay any place I can find.

What I'd like to know ,of course, is if it is linear or decays differently like lamps where it drops starting immediately and for the first few hundred hours it is precipitous then begins to tail .

Art it is said to be pretty lineair down to the 70 or more commonly 50% mark specified as end of life.

Of course there can be mitigation stategies employed, like start at 85% of specified max output of the laser bank, and keep it at that lumens level, increasing the drive to the lasers over time. One might even add additional, external cooling, as Barco used to offer on its constant light output Flexx models.

Thanks ! Just looking at a linear graph one would expect 97% output at 1000 hours 94% at 2500 hours etc. approximately. I've not looked at mine with a light meter recently so I was interested if it's close to that theoretically predicted and what to expect.

Different lasers will have different output decay times, Barco went into this with the new RGB, where blu and green are pure from one manufacturer and red is derived from infrared and runs hotter requiring a peltier element, they claimed 20,000 hours to half brightness if i recall correctly. But that may be affected by the red and as such won't apply to the 5000.

          Thanks !
Yea, I understand I just wanted a generalĀ  idea of the track I should expect. It's looking like I might have my 5000esĀ  stack a little longer than I originally anticipated.
