  • Small Demo Blunder might have cost Barco SP4k-25 Taking Trophy at Cinemacon !

I had been wondering on the back of my head about the new Barco 4 series launch at Cinemacon, why did the 3d look so good (80% as good as the big THOR 3D as when shown with RealD ultimate screen), and yet the 2D demo was slightly underwhelming, much better color balance than the 3P Christie (Barco knows how to maintain their stellar House Color across platforms) but the image lacked punch and looked like if it was projecting through a strong grey filter.

Well lo and behold, in discussing my impressions with a person in the know it turns out that for the 2D demo of this amazingly engineered projector, the show runners left the RealD Z-Screen in front of the lens, and did not switch the internal 2D profile!

That explains exactly what i saw. Self back-patting aside for the reinforcement of my platinum eyeballs prowess, I feel much better that with a lens iris i can proceed ahead to upgrade one of my more notorious cinemas here in Miami Beach.

Also the future release of a P series variant will be a sweet projector too, which it will come.

Goes to show you how these trade shows are often mired with serious setup issues.

Thought I would correct the record. Cheers!
