Hi all, I'm new here. Just been installing 4K-23B with ICMP. Its a beast! But wow, when calibrated even with "alternative content" BluRay it blows me away. Compiling photographs to post at a later date. Have ingested some 4K trailers into the ICMP - Avatar amongst others and the results are stunning. Have had to order a 1.2kw lamp as the 2kw is too much - I can't get below 21ftl! Bit of bad planning there! oops! Found out that the new ICMP software release has now disabled the two DVI inputs, so only left with 2 x Display ports and the HDMI for  alternative content sources, but they the DP's need an active HDMI to DP converter - drat! Ordered a couple of StarTech for temp fix until I can find better solution. Any ideas?
In the end I really need to be able to hook up 5 alternative sources and liked the fact I could get that without any sort of switcher, but software change killed that. Control is via AMX program on iPad mini, works well and the Barco responds - only RS232 as TCIP is not reliable enough. Will post more info if anyone is interested.

Welcome to the forum. Yes the DP4k 23b throws a great image, good choice. I love Barco's software especially the Post Production it spoils you.
Tell us more about your room. What size screen are you using?

I like the ICMP. Still has a few issues and features waiting to be activated but that is common.
I am running a 1.2 lamp & sometimes jump to a 2k my screen is limited to 12 feet wide so plenty of light with the smaller lamps. I threw in a 4k lamp and almost went blind If the 12k is to bright you can use a 900watt.

We are all waiting for the DVI ports to become live again just a matter of time. This is currently the only IMS to offer DP, I wish other would follow suit. The HDMI chips are on a modual  providing an easy upgrade path.  I was unaware the DP needed and active signal when using a convertor but I just bought a new video card with mini DP outputs that requires an active mini to full DP so maybe not so uncommon.
Control is the next step for me please post more info when you can. Look forward to seeing pictures

I forgot to touch on 3D. I never really care for 3D but recently caught the bug. Are you into 3D if so what system are you using. I am running the Volfoni active cinema system but I am considering Dolby.

Hi, a nice welcome thank you.
Current image width is just over 5m (2.35) but planning moving up to 7m Flat masking to Scope.
Room size 9 m x 8m wide. 4.5m high ceiling screen end  stepping up to 2.5m ceiling rear seats.
We had ordered the projector with a 2kw and it arrived with a 4kw! We did preliminary set up with the 4, it was like looking at the surface of the sun! 2kw arrived, it's still too bright, Thanks for the 900w info, didn't know that.
I went to Kortjrik and was given a demo of their laser pj with the 3D hobbit trailer - I have never seen depth like it, I was blown away but I am not into 3D either!

It is my understanding, having been on the line to tech support re another problem, that the DVI ports won't become live again.....oops. I am not very happy about that considering I unboxed it a week ago! Its like buying a new car and the salesman telling you the aux input on the stereo does't work anymore because they decided to use bluetooth. oh and that hole in the dashboard where you plugged in the aux cable doesn't look that bad...I think they may have to reactivate them or send me a card with an additional 2 DP ports or HDMI ports.
Folsom sell a HDMI switcher though....8 inputs / 2 HDMI outputs USD100K! I think its a bit more than a switcher....

There are different version for the Alchemy module, curious which one you have.
Look up the USL Inc hdmi matrix switcher it is new to their product line-up. Priced right

Will let you know Alchemy model, should be the latest, pj was only shipped a week ago. It does have the latest firmware  v01.01.05.18

I should have mentioned that this room is being slowly upgraded. It originally had a Runco VX50D and Runco Vivix processor that was dying, with McKinley anamorphic lens. Right from the start it was never jaw dropping, but has prevailed for the last 8 years. We decided to change the pj first and spent have many months being auditioned by various manufacturers. Once we saw the Barco it was a game changer.

Speaking with Stewart Filmscreen re the Directors choice, pricey, but probably the way to go.

We plan to upgrade the audio in the room to Auro. Currently there is a Lexicon processor with Braxton amps and all the speakers are Triad gold but I have never been moved. Been to audition some brands, most haven't moved me but  JBL synthesis  Everest complete system - very impressed, expensive. Caltech's CAT MBX system, wow! Unbelievably  expensive, but absolutely stunning performance, out of the picture I think.

Ideas?

Regarding the Alchemy it is available in a few flavors, just a cinema player or with alternative content inputs etc.

Wow this really is a big upgrade for you and a smart move regarding resale value. Picture quality can get even better there are some nice contrast mods available , yes it does get better. As a plus your ready for cinema content.
There is another person on this forum who owns two DP4K 23B in his home.

On the audio side we have Dolbys Atmos Barcos Auro and DTS is about to launch its 3D audio format. On the consumer side they say it will be a year or so before receivers and audio processors offer decoding for all formats under one roof. On the cinema side they will most likely remain separate unless Regarding speakers there are so many options and it is such a personal choice I leave that to the end user. Youve done a good job singling out a few great brands.

I am excited for you this is quit the upgrade, congrats please keep us posted !!

Hi, the Alchemy module has 3 x 1Tb hard drives, 2 x Display Port, 1 x HDMI, 2 x SDI, plus all the usual AES, GPIO etc on the ICMP, and the smaller module, can't remember its name or acronym, (there so many!) below has 2 x DVI.
In contact with some distributors for content at the moment, but have to go through the Portuguese distributors. They are banging on about subtitles etc which we don't want on English speaking movies.

I have borrowed a few 4K trailers from various friends in the industry to load onto the server and the results are stunning.

Have been to many public theatres here in Portugal and always want to bang on the projectionists door to up the light output - its  dismal, mind you cost of a ticket is €6 - €8 so shouldn't really complain, I just don't go very often. Not sure what kit they are using as they refuse to speak with me (I am a Scot, fluent in Portuguese), but hey ho thats the way it goes!

Auro auditions have been impressive and have been looking at the Datasat which although seems to have had a few problems with power supplies in a couple of places, they seem dedicated and are sure to sort it out. May be the way to go. Like your advice about speakers, your right, its a personal choice. For me, the best I've heard are the Caltech CAT MBX so far, their absolute control over the frequency spectrum in the designated theatre, SPL without pain, air movement and excitement generated is fantastic, but so are their prices! I believe it was Tolstoy who said "music is a short hand of emotion", a great soundtrack is essential and gets those hairs standing on your arm.

Buy once, buy right, cheap is expensive motto. Love to hear about other brands that deliver as this project will take another few months to complete, we have time.

Here is a picture of my DP4k 23B with the USL IMS-2200. I also have the Alchemy Ive spent a lot of tie with it but I am waiting for a few more features to be activated before installing fr good. The Alchemy has a lot to offer and may be the best of the IMS selection once all features are up and running.
Glad your able to screen DCPs once in a while that is icing on the cake.

I will have to add image later there is something wrong with the software they are looking into it.

If you want to use the higher light output lamp you can lower the light output by defocusing the lamp.  The light output can decrease by at least 50%.  Start with a very small turn of the focus screw on the lamp housing and turn more in very small increments if further light output reduction is needed.

Yes I have recently changed the lamp to 2kw and did the x / y focus on the casing, its a good point you have brought up, is there any chance of causing a hotspot on the reflector as by moving the x/y you are no longer focusing on the  light engine but within the reflector.? Is this a stupid question?

I have read several discussion questioning if defocusing the lamp would hurt the reflector, the replies have always supported Ivans suggestion.

I don't think that the reflector will be damaged by defocusing the lens.  Also, uniformity will increase modestly.
