CRMS Series Exceed The Highest Expectations
    August, 2019

An audiophile for over 35 years, Florida-based Brad Scott has been an aficionado of exceptional home theater systems for the past two decades. Alcons CRMS Cinema Reference Monitor System speakers were the only choice when his home theater was recently remodeled and upgraded.
Peter Montoulieu, proprietor of high-end home cinema design/installation company Cineramax, introduced Brad to Alcons pro-ribbon systems at the US InfoComm trade show several years ago. Brad was so impressed that the remodeling of his home theater included a brand new room, especially engineered to take advantage of Alcons exceptional sound.
“From my first listen, I knew that the Alcons pro-ribbons solution was the best I had heard. Subsequent listening sessions, and comparing to other speaker setups, only confirmed it,” he says.
Peter worked closely with Brad on the entire system design, alongside Alan Gouger for video / projection and Walter Fortmüller, who played a key part of the system’s design, implementation, configuration and calibration.“From my first listen, I knew that the Alcons pro-ribbons solution was the best I had heard. Subsequent listening sessions, and comparing to other speaker setups, only confirmed it,”, Brad ScottThe system is fully 3D, comprising three Alcons CRMS mkII cinema reference monitor system, eight CRMS-SR reference surround and ten CRMSC-SRHV/90 compact horizontal/vertical reference surround, all powered by six Sentinel3 amplified loudspeaker controllers.
“Peter was invaluable. He introduced me to all the critical components in my system – Alcons pro-ribbon technology, Trinnov processors and the SIM2 HDR DUO projection system, as well as the 5D theater concept of 3D movie, 3D sound (Atmos, DTS:X, Auro 3D) and D-box cinematic motion,” says Brad. “He spent a lot of time on room treatment, speaker placement design and even worked with CINEAK designing the theater chairs.”
With a wine cellar and bar at the back, plus 32 feet of sliding hurricane glass doors that open to a panoramic lake and golf course view, the sound could have been compromised. But with such an expert team at work, this was never likely to be the case. Indeed, Brad’s room must be close to the ultimate for any home theater enthusiast.
“Being a multi-purpose space usually means cutting corners and making compromises. But, after final tuning, this system performed among the best dedicated and purpose built rooms I have ever done,” says Walter. “The biggest reward I could ask for was seeing the emotional impact the system had on him after I’d fine-tuned it.”
Brad is every bit as enthusiastic, highlighting that the Alcons CRMS pro-ribbon system has exceeded even his very high expectations.“It’s the best audio system I’ve ever heard for both movies and music,” he says. “It has it all – dynamics, clarity, imaging, no distortion and it produces zero ear fatigue.”, Brad Scott“It’s the best audio system I’ve ever heard for both movies and music,” he says. “It has it all – dynamics, clarity, imaging, no distortion and it produces zero ear fatigue. With the curtains drawn, the room sounds as good as any dedicated studio. Many with years in the industry who have heard it agree.”
“Brad is a very experienced and knowledgeable AV enthusiast,” Walter adds. “After fine tuning it, the biggest reward I could ask for was seeing the emotional impact the system had on him. The reward from seeing this long journey coming to fruition in such a way was exceptional.”

Grmbls! HTML mode shows nicely the HTML copied from elsewhere, to then discard it all. Why is there even an HTML format post box, and why is it default?!

Remarkably the only person not quoted is the man whom introduced Alcons to HT in the first place and planned and out together the complete package,Peter Cineramax. Uhmm, upon second read, Alan get's mentioned not quoted either. Of course Alcons is promoting its product not the Sim2 HDR Plus Duo Alan put in place.

Walter did not like the way he was quoted, repetitive he agreed.

In any event here is the white paper for my end of day demo sessions at CEDIA.

CEDIA 2019 CINERAMAX TOPSMERSSIVE ALCONS DEMO -WHITE PAPERAt the last end of day demo, Alcons Audio has allowed us to demonstrate to CEDIA Attendees the result of our 3-year study of 64 plus terabytes of immersive audio Kaleidescape content.
Creating a world-class immersive system is insufficient to guarantee a wholesome bubble of sound, curating a TOPSMERSSIVE library sample for the owners of these systems is the only way to guarantee the full DEPTH AND BREADTH enjoyment of their system, highlighting effective use of every speaker in the room.

The focus of this comprehensive scene analysis effort was to identify the most intense TOPSMMERSIVE movie clips, to highlight the so often underutilized TOPS CHANNELS in Atmos, but also enjoyable using DTS Neural-X (and pro) on some mixes.
The problem we have identified in Film Mixing is that 85% of movie mixes are created in an Allocentric sound design, presentation aesthetics dating back to the original Star Wars and Apocalypse now surround scaping. In reality, Allocentric soundscapes date as far back just to 300 A.D. Choral Music in Catholic cathedrals. Egocentric soundscapes exist from many centuries before, perhaps the propensity to prefer Egocentric sound fields may be ingrained in our DNA. By completing the egocentric soundfield with heavy tops participation this demo aims to show the benefits of a complete bubble. A bubble sans tops is a Donut not a bubble.
There exists tremendous inertia by the mixing community to place sounds on the overhead channels, and also to a lesser extent the width channels. The problem is compounded by the fact that some of these traditionally mixed movies appear to have effective height effects despite the actual top speakers not lighting up in a VU meter channel display, case in point Apocalypse now, of this 3-hour movie perhaps only 3 minutes make use of discrete tops.
[Incidentally, we estimate that out of a total of 64 terabytes of content in our scene analysis Kaleidescape library, only 8 terabytes qualify as TOPSMERSSIVE in our book. Interestingly many of these titles considered TOPSMERSSIVE are exclusive only to the Kaleidescape Store.]
Speaking of the perception of heights in tops deprived sound mixes. Hollywood may say, “if it works in some movies, why fix it?” Because owners of high channel count systems have spent considerable resources in overhead loudspeakers and feel cheated when an ATMOS track sound very much like a legacy 7.1.  We believe that by showing the CEDIA specialist community a demonstration of what TOPSMERSSIVE mixes we should expect from Hollywood, that the creative community will respond. There is no more revealing Loudspeakers for Bubble Scene Analysis than Alcons Audio as demonstrated in Cinema Logue in Florida.

Last year I had the worldwide director of cinema products in my home lab to A) lobby for the freedom of choosing our immersive upmixers regardless of original codec which he agreed on and passed along and B) to show him the effectiveness of a TOPSMERSSIVE Kaleidescape Script, he expressed admiration for this tool that would allow Dolby create better ATMOS, but the studios only give demo releases on a per-event basis. So the Kaleidescaope script remains the world’s top tool for effective TOPSMERSSIVE scene analysis.
In a recent emal from him where I was putting together with Dolby Larry Fast who found the Quad master tapes for SYNERGY and wants to release in Atmos, he expressed interest in returning for more Oct. 21:
        “Hi Peter,

Good to hear from you, buddy.  Thank you for the introduction to Larry.  I’ll introduce Larry to Ceri Thomas on our team who works with labels, producers and artists working on their musical content in Dolby Atmos.

Show East is coming up quickly in Miami, we’ll have to get together again and catch up.”

This year I plan to go into FULL LOBBYIST MODE to try to jumpstart the Consumer Led Topsmerssive Revolution. The hopes are that at CEDIA we can recruit colleagues in the industry to help fuel this revolution.

So, when , where, how will be this special TOPSMERSSIVE immersive audio demo by Cineramax?

Alcons Audio Wins More Fans At CEDIA Expo 2019

Alcons Audio’s growing presence in the US home theater market received another boost in mid-September, as the annual CEDIA Expo again hosted the award-winning Alcons Pro-Ribbon Immersive Experience. With CEDIA returning to Denver for the first time in five years, a new array of audiophiles was able to hear how Alcons’ pro-ribbon technology makes a huge difference to the enjoyment of home theater.

The Pro-Ribbon Immersive Experience has been a highlight of CEDIA Expo for the past five years. This year it featured an Alcons 9.x.6 sound system with a Sony VPL-VW5000ES 4K home theater projector, DreamScreen UltraWeave V6 screen, and StormAudio ISP 3D.32 Elite immersive processor.

With LCR screen channels of three Alcons CRMS mkll, four CRMSC-LFE18 as screen subs, a surround base level comprising six CRMSC-SRHV90 and a surround height level of six CRMSC-SRHV120 - all powered by six Sentinel10 amplified loudspeaker controllers - it won a new army of fans in the central US, earning praise throughout the show and social media.

“This show was a real turning point for Alcons Audio, with many visitors telling us the Alcons Pro-Ribbon Immersive Experience was a ‘must see’ on their agenda,” says Pauline Ortiz y Pino Alcons Audio US Operations Manager. “The demos were standing-room-only every day and multiple visitors brought guests back to experience the demo, again and again. This response demonstrates the ability of the Alcons Pro-Ribbon sound systems to reproduce dynamics, clarity and imaging with no distortion and zero listening fatigue. The resulting overwhelming comment has been, “Hands down, this room was best in show!”

“CEDIA allows Alcons Audio to showcase her proprietary, patented Pro-Ribbon technology and high-end, HiFi sound systems in an intimate way to technology specialists. Due to the show, we have welcomed several new dealers and reps into the Alcons family,” says David Rahn North American Sales Manager. “We would like to thank our partners, StormAudio, Sony and DreamScreen for their contribution to this success.”
