It's reported autodynamic range expander feature was also a stimulating prospect.

It works best with HDR original material. But even with an SDR version, that is often generated from an HDR grade, a grader is required to provide a non-clipping SDR grade that still contains all the info required to generate the HDR grade at the reception/display site. Auto expansion is possible, but Philips thinks its grader assisted production chain produces superior results, it efforst focus on contentbowners and distributors that will license its algorithms. Philips sofar uses dynamic (metdata supported) curves. The BBC for instance refuses to use metadata and uses a fixed (split) EOTconversion curve,  the curve resembles the Gamma function at the low end and a logarithmic function for the higher dynamic range of the curve. Hopefully I can see it for myself somewhere next week, though I haven't heared from Philips recently, but I was told it will have several demo's at partnerbooths at this year's International Broadcasting Convention.
