Peter, hadn't seen this post before. This is the culmination of the wings blending software, now adapted to studio background/set and production. So, an image processor to play-out three 4K60P streams. They have advertised presentation servers upto 8K. So, competing with classic French vendors like AnalogWay and Dataton in live presentation/events, and German Coolux (now owned by Christie) for studio sets, like backgrounds desk displays, and so on.
They did not get back to me about the question I asked them following IBC (plus the ultimate question 'how much';-)), as the new studio product launched at IBC, the Wing RAW server is lacking in connectivity according to the spec. sheet.
I just looked up the productpage for a spec sheet, and it seems a bit limited or outdated in the connectivity, and the picture next to the quoted text doesn't even have all the connections listed.
3 4k outputs requires more than 2x10 gigabit/s, and no SDI outputs just inputs? How are you going to feed those Barco projectors?
Instead of standard consumer/gaming computer hardware Wings Engine Raw contains professional server technology derived from professional IT data center equipment. Wings Engine Raw comes with Xeon CPU, redundant high performance power supply, 2x10 GBit LAN, server chipset, up to 8 3G-SDI live inputs and Displayport 1.2 and DVI-D output connectors.<\q><\q>
Barco's were also mentioned because the company annouced a client win in AED at the same time, and AED beside having bought and expanded the Alfacam studio and broadcast services business is also doing all or most of the training for Barco, and is a master distributor. The CEO described his company to me as an 'Equipment Bank', so stocking, distribution, financing, leasing, rental, for manufacturers and resellers, and end-users.
