Berlin Potzdammer Platz saw the first 4K LASER IMAX theater open on October 29th featuring Robert Zemeckis 'The Walk'. It is joined by a second theater in Karlsruhe for the November 5th premiere of James Bond 'SPECTRE'. This is the first of the new generation IMAX theaters in continental Europe, featuring 4K, LASER lightsource, and 12 channel digital audio, instead of the existing six channels there are two additional side channels and 4 all new overhead channels. The first European 4K LASER IMAX theater is the Empire Leicester Square Imax in London. Many European markets do not have full size IMAX theaters with screens in the 1.43:1 format, so when these will see the LASER and immersive audio upgrade remains to be seen. The IMAX theater in Berlin has a 500 Square meter screen.
The next movie to launch in the new brighter, wider colorspace IMAX with immersive audio will be the new Start Wars episode in December.
