  • Acer third manufacturer to market TI ‘XPR Technology’ 4K projector

Acer is the third manufacturer that announces a TI XPR Technology based 4K consumer projector. It will ship most likely in January of next year so following BenQ that is to be preceeded by Optoma's HLD lightsource 4K DLP projector.

The Acer V9800 projector with UHD resolution includes Rec 709, wich according to Acer means the V9800 is able to reproduce faithfully the original colors and tones to give viewers an authentic movie-watching experience. Of course UHD color is wider than that generally P3,also know as DCi Color. Acer is showing the V9800 at Computex in Taipei Taiwan, next week from May 31 through to June 4. Rec. 709 currently is still a challenging target for both lamp, Laser-Phosphor and even RGB LED like Philips Color Sparq/ HLD lightsourced projectors. Only RGB LASER projectors can display much wider colors, with enough headroom to account for the lower light output compared to narrower color spaces.

Featuring a Texas Instrumenst 4K DMD processor, the V9800 serves up 8.3 million pixels — four times more than a 1080p Full HD projector.

As it features ColorPurity technology we may conclude it will be lamp based projector.

The V9800 follows the Rec 709 protocol set by the International Telecommunications Union for high-definition television, an industry color specification that allows a viewing device (TV, monitor or projector) to recreate colors exactly as they’ve been imagined by the director. The Rec 709 specification digitally defines the color identity during post-production, which allows a compatible projector to recognize and decode the film’s intended visual feeling. Thanks to the inclusion of Rec 709, Acer’s V9800 projector is able to reproduce faithfully the original colors and tones to give viewers an authentic movie-watching experience. The V9800 also features the industry-standard sRGB mode to guarantee consistency and high-quality contrast, while eliminating deviation in color temperature during playback.

In addition to authentic color reproduction, Acer’s ColorPurity technology is applied to the V9800, combining a RGBRGB color wheel with unique lamp control techniques, resulting in a wider color gamut and reduced rainbow effects, allowing the viewer to experience pure reds, rich greens and deep blues for amazingly realistic viewing. The V9800 operates at an extremely low noise level of 20 dBA so movie aficionados are able to hear even the quietest whispers.
