LG drops Euro RRP on OLEDs, 77" G6 reduced from €29,999 down to €19,999

LG Benelux, the LG European division near Amsterdam has just confirmed it reduced the Recommended Retail Prices on its 2016 OLED TVs. A remarkable reduction on the premium G6 77" TV. Ahead of the introduction the RRP is reduced by a third, or €10K, from €29,999 down to €19,999. The reduction of the already shipping 65" G6 is less spectacular with €500 from €7.5K down to €7K. All consumer pricing includes 21% VAT.

According to a spokesperson the 77" should become available, but she could not yet provide specifics. Korean distributors said last month, the 77" was available for pre-order in LGs home market, with delivery starting at the end of this month, at a dollar equivalent of $38K.



This bodes well for any US introduction.

LG Electronics releases 77 inch OLED TV

LG Electronics has released a 77 inch TV powered by organic light-emitting diode technology, priced at 41 million won, the company said Tuesday.

The product is the latest TV model in its LG SIGNITURE product lineup and a sequel to a 65 inch OLED TV released in March.



Starting with South Korea, the electronic giant plans to release the premium TV in markets in the U.S., Europe and Asia, to expand its presence in the high-end TV category.

The LG SIGNATURE OLED TV boasts luxury but sophisticated design as well as premium sound and display quality, the company said.

Instead of using metal sheets to cover the back of OLED panel, the company applied an intensified glass sheet to make the TV look slimmer.

The company also increased the sound capacity of the TV at 30 percent from its previous model in cooperation with a U.S. audio company Harman Kardon. The product features 10 speaker units to provide rich, three-dimensional sounds, it added.

LG Display doubles 65-inch OLED panel production in Q2

[THE INVESTOR] LG Display, the display-making unit of LG Group, has almost doubled production of its 65-inch organic light-emitting diode panels in the second quarter, as more TV manufacturers are adopting the larger OLED displays.

According to UBI Research, a local research firm specialized in OLED, the company shipped about 140,000 65-inch OLED panels in the March-June period, compared to some 28,000 units shipped in the first quarter.

The increased shipments of LG, the No. 1 player in the larger OLED market, indicates that the OLED TV market has started gaining momentum in sales and TV firms are also increasingly adopting larger panels.

More recently, German TV makers, including Loewe and Metz, have joined to adopt OLED displays. LG Display is also expected to supply 30,000 panels to China’s Skyworth this year.

“Consumers have been reluctant to purchase smaller OLED TVs due to the huge price gap with their LCD alternatives,” said UBI.

“But the price gap is reduced when it comes to larger premium models. That’s why LG Display is focusing resources into 60-inch plus panels.”
