  • IBC: Books the Big Screen for the LASER HDR Jungle

For the past years IBC takes the opportunity of having the large auditorium converted in a state-of-the-art movie theater for the Big Screen Experience Digital Cinema conference sessions to show one or two recent commercial movies, featuring the latest cinema and production technology, to the trade show visitors and conference attendees. This year the Saturday evening movie will be the new adaptation of The Jungle Book.

With the help of industry leaders including Christie, Dolby, QSC and Harkness Screens, the RAI Auditorium is converted into The IBC Big Screen Experience. for five days it is the absolute state of the art in cinema technology. The IBC screening will feature high dynamic range, but no 3D, using the latest Dolby Vision Projection System, co-developed with Christie Digital, and the specially made Harkness screen, combined with Dolby Atmos sound.

The IBC Big Screen Experience is home to conference sessions – including Ang Lee’s keynote address on Monday 12 September – to demonstrations, and to the IBC Awards Ceremony on Sunday night. The full conference programme of the Big Screen Experience in the Auditorium may be found here.

It also gives us the chance to show a couple of the year’s hot movies. These special screenings give IBC visitors a chance to experience both the best in cinema projection and sound, while watching the latest in creativity, production techniques and post production technology.

This year’s Saturday night movie is Jon Favreau’s stunning new adaptation of The Jungle Book, thanks to the support of the Walt Disney Company. Hailed as being close to Rudyard Kipling’s original 1894 collection of stories, this new movie is a technical tour de force.

Despite being set entirely in the Indian jungle, the live action – featuring Neel Sethi as Mowgli – was shot on a stage in downtown Los Angeles. Everything else, including the cast of animals like Baloo the bear and Shere Khan the tiger, is created in computer graphics.

The Jungle Book is a free screening for all IBC visitors. It starts at 18.30 on Saturday night, but demand for seats is sure to be huge. Doors open at 18.15.
