The largest broadcast and MPVD (multichannel video programming distributors) compression vendor Harmonic will show its latest advancements in video infrastructure. The PURE Compression Engine forms the basis of its new video-quality optimization solution for OTT workflows, according to Harmonic it provides 'an uncompromised OTT viewing experience on any device, with equally remarkable savings on bandwidth consumption'.
Based on the Harmonic PURE Compression Engine the vendor will showcase a complete UHD HDR workflow and new video-quality assessment technology for OTT workflows that maximizes bandwidth efficiency while assuring that video quality targets are hit.
The 4K encoding provided by the PURE engine is also used to showcase an immersive 360-degree virtual reality (VR) viewing experience. Harmonic and select ecosystem partners will show a no-compromise VR solution for broadcast-quality HD imagery.
With its broad portfolio, Harmonic is offering an end-to-end workflow for the delivery of live and VOD UHD content with HDR. With the acquisition of Thomson Video Networks came the prized ViBe line of HD and Ultra HD (4K) encoders. This line offers UHD with HDR Workflow for broadcast applications. At the show Harmonic will deliver Ultra HD with high dynamic range with a complete workflow featuring the Harmonic ViBE 4K UHD encoder, Spectrum X advanced media server and ViBE VS7000 convergent video platform.
Harmonic will also show its virtualized (i.e. cloud based, and server based) playout and delivery. An expanded Spectrum media server family with new virtualized playout and delivery capabilities, including virtualized channel-in-a-box and ABR encoding and packaging, will complement Harmonic's new VOS cloud-native solutions: VOS Cloud and VOS 360. Providing a snapshot of the monetization opportunities enabled by cloud-based media processing solutions and services, such as cloud DVR and packaging-on-the-fly.
The ViBE HEVC 4K encoder has been deployed with a number of early 4K broadcasters, like: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
