Sony Electronics is launching the VPL-VW675ES, the vendor describes as a new, compact native 4K resolution Home Cinema projector. It is the successor to the 665 projector, that featured older, limited bandwidth HDMI inputs, the 675 feature the 'latest connectivity options using the latest HDMI standard and HDCP 2.2 on both inputs'. Output is rated at 1800 lumens. And dynamic contrast ratio is specified at 350,000:1. Sony says it supports HDR capability for both 4K 24P and 4K 60P for fully enjoying various 4K HDR content, In Europe it will be available as the VW 550, so it will also work with 25P, 30P and 50P
The VPL-VW675ES home theater projector will be available in November 2016 at an MSRP of $14,999.99.
The VPL-VW675ES will be amongst the industry's first home cinema projectors to support Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) for HDR broadcasting services and user generated content. Support is to be added through a firmware update to be provided soon after the new HDMI specification is standardized. The projector also supports HDR 10 using the PQ curve.
Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) will be upgraded depending on its standardization schedule. Hybrid Log Gamma will also be available for VVPL-W5000ES soon after the HDMI standard is finalized, Sony said in a statement.
The VPL-VW675ES also includes a feature which enables customers to adjust the average screen brightness, depending on their environments or preferences, while maintaining accurate HDR reproduction.
It also has a built in RF 3D transmitter.
