Sony SRX R515P 4K projector
The Sony comes delivered as a full system which includes Lens, projector, Server, Cart, UPS and 15" control panel.
Setting up a Dcinema system can be intimidating but because the Sony is a complete proprietary system it makes for easy setup no third party component updates or marriage of IMBs needed.
The 515 proves easy to use as well. While the GUI is very basic at this time it offers all the important features needed. If familiar with D cinema operations it will not take long learning the keystrokes needed for your very first screening.
Instead of using Xenon lamps the Sony 515 uses 6 HPM lamps filtered to meet DCI color spec each with a 3000 hour life span.
The Sony 515 is very flexible allowing you to program the lamps in any configuration of choice. Run 1, 2 or 4 or all 6 depending on screen size. There is also a lamp power setting with a range from 80% to 100% and a lamp brightness choice of 1, 2, or 3. This lamp flexibility makes the Sony 515 not only ideal for full size commercial cinemas but also smaller screening or production rooms.
I saw the Sony 515 on an 11 foot wide scope screen running one lamp at 80% power #1 brightness power. At that screen size very little to no heat output with 5 spare lamps it is like a cat with 6 life's making this the most cost efficient full featured Dcinema projector on the market.
The 515s large aperture F2.5 lens is made of ELD (Extra Low Dispersion) glass to create a super fine pitch 4K image. Below is an image of Sony's 4k lens side by side with the competitors 2k optics used throughout its 4k platform. Sony is the only 4k cinema projector utilizing a true 4k lens. Combined with its electronic path the Sony delivers a true 4k image from input to the screen.
Just slide the lens in place and lock the lever. Very easy.

The SRX 515 features an improved SXRD optical engine. Sony claims a contrast ratio of 8000:1 and they deliver. I measured 8455:1 with 6 lamps illuminated using a Minolta T-10. A new record for the Dcinema arena where 2000:1 is standard. Commercial Cinemas are required by law to leave some lights on. This ambient lighting can be damaging to image contrast therefore any number beyond 2000:1 may go unnoticed but feedback from movie goers and critics who have attended Sony equipped cinemas have praised the 515s image quality proving once again old standards are meant to be broken.
