  • BT Sports puts 4K Sports on the Timeline

    BT Sport was nominated today for an IBC Innovation Award for its 4K coverage:

    BT Sport has a second spot on the shortlist, this time for a delivery solution. In 2015 it launched BT Sport Ultra HD, and since then have produced a large number of sporting events in 4K, including football, rugby, MotoGP, squash and NBA basketball. The company worked with its outside broadcast partner Timeline Television to build Europe’s first Ultra HD 4K truck, including cameras from Sony and a SAM switcher.

    A truck that is immediately put to work to cover a number of consecutive live sporting events.


    Timeline's UHD truck deployed for Europa League final

    Timeline Television will provide outside broadcast (OB) services in Ultra HD (UHD) for BT Sport at the Europa League Final between Liverpool and Sevilla in Basel, Switzerland this evening - the first time the Europa League Final has been broadcast in UHD.

    It is also the first time Timeline’s UHD 4K truck has broadcast from mainland Europe.

    Timeline’s OB truck was built for the launch of BT Sport’s UHD service.

    Timeline Television managing director Daniel McDonnell said: “Timeline, in partnership with BT Sport, have been pushing the limits of Ultra HD 4K since we launched our UHD 4K outside broadcast truck ten months ago.

    “We have worked with the finest manufacturers in the industry to find the best solutions to bring this technology to life. We’ve been helping BT Sport bring cinematic experiences to fans living rooms ever since, and I’m excited our OB truck and talented staff play a key role in  enabling BT Sport viewers to experience these historical live football moments better than ever.”

    Timeline Television’s UHD truck will also provide 4K coverage of the 47th FA Cup Final on 21 May between Crystal Palace and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. This will be followed the next day by the FA Trophy between Halifax Town and Grimsby Town and the FA Vase Final between Hereford and Morpeth Town.

    Timeline Television last night provided outside broadcast (OB) services in Ultra High-Definition (UHD) for BT Sport at the Europa League Final between Liverpool and Sevilla from Basel, Switzerland.

    It was the first time the Europa League Final has been broadcast live in UHD.

    In a month populated with sporting finals on BT Sport, Timeline Television’s UHD truck will also provide 4K coverage of the 47th FA Cup Final on 21 May between Crystal Palace and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. This will be followed by the finals of the FA Trophy and FA Vase.

    The UHD truck, the first purpose-built 4K outside broadcast unit in Europe, was designed in conjunction with BT Sport to support the launch of Europe’s first live UHD channel in August 2015.
