LEAWOOD, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AMC Theatres® (NYSE: AMC) and IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) today announced that the IMAX at AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 is fully renovated and has reopened, in time for the debut of FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM.
The IMAX at AMC Loews Lincoln Square now features IMAX’s state-of-the-art laser projection system, IMAX’s immersive 12-channel sound, and all new plush rocker seating.
“The IMAX at AMC Loews Lincoln Square is not only an iconic movie-going destination in Manhattan and throughout New York, but is known around the country as one of the premier movie-going venues,” said John McDonald, Executive Vice President, U.S. Operations, AMC. “IMAX with laser takes movie-going to a whole new level and together with the new plush seating, we’re excited to offer our New York guests this one-of-a-kind IMAX experience that they won’t find in their homes or any other movie theatre in New York.”
IMAX with laser represents a quantum leap forward in cinema technology — providing audiences with sharper, brighter, clearer and more vivid digital images than ever, combined with a whole new level of immersive audio. Designed from the ground up for IMAX's largest screens, the dual 4K laser projection system is equipped with a new optical engine and suite of proprietary IMAX technologies capable of projecting an image with up to a 1.43:1 aspect ratio with maximum resolution and sharpness, unparalleled 2D and 3D brightness, industry-leading contrast and an expanded color gamut that will allow filmmakers to present more vivid and exotic colors than ever before.
“The AMC Lincoln Square IMAX is an important part of our legacy and continues to be among our most successful theatres in the world,” said Mark Welton, President, IMAX Theatres. “We are delighted to launch our groundbreaking laser and sound technology at this landmark location together with our longtime partner AMC – ushering in a new generation of immersive movie-going for audiences.”
The new system also includes IMAX's next-generation sound technology that delivers even greater power and precision for ultimate audio immersion. It has been upgraded to 12 discrete channels plus sub-bass, and includes additional side channels as well as new overhead channels that will improve the system's ability to position sounds around the audience and further ensure every seat is the best in the house.
AMC Theatres has also installed IMAX with laser at its IMAX at AMC locations at Metreon 16 in San Francisco, AMC Universal CityWalk 19 in Los Angeles, and Navy Pier IMAX at AMC in Chicago..
