iQIYI Launches Asia's first Online Variety Show in HDR Technology
BEIJING, March 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- iQIYI, China's largest video streaming platform, announced that Sound of Journey, Asia's first online variety show produced with HDR technology, would be released exclusively on its platform on March 21.
The reality show features three new-generation musicians traveling to Sri Lanka, China's Yunnan Province and Tunisia for a music journey pursuing freedom and independence. It has six episodes, each lasting 15 to 20 minutes.
The biggest highlight of the program is that it is completely produced with 4K HDR technology. HDR is a digital imaging technology that provides a greater dynamic range of luminosity than standard imaging techniques. It is capable of delivering significant improvements to color, contrast and brightness without increasing the native pixel count of the image.
In order to ensure the 4K HDR version of Sound of Journey can be presented more realistically with high dynamic range and wide color gamut on terminal devices, the production cycle is longer than other ordinary self-produced shows.
Duan Youqiao, senior vice-president of iQIYI, said the HDR technology has made the screening pictures ten times brighter than those without using it, which better reflects the visual effects of real environments and brings better immersive experience to the viewers.
"It would be the first time for Chinese audience to enjoy the high-quality original online content produced with the 4K HDR technology on their TV sets at home," said Duan.
"This has also made iQIYI a pioneer in applying this top technology in the shooting of online commercial programs."
Currently, 4K HDR has been one of the most popular technologies adopted by global video streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon. Sound of Journey, made by iQIYI's in-house production team VC Studio, has marked an important milestone in China's and even Asia's video industry.
A leader in China's video streaming industry, iQIYI has always taken technology and product development as the key driver for its business growth. By working with international strategic partners including Intel and Ericsson, iQIYI has dedicated to enhancing video services quality and improving users' viewing experience. Currently, iQIYI has also ventured into high-tech areas like cloud, virtual reality and artificial intelligence, providing viewers with premium video content as well as various entertainment services including gaming, e-commerce, movie ticketing and live streaming.
