Ten Christie projectors deliver a more lifelike experience and eliminate lamp replacement costs for Mob Museum.

One of America’s top-ranked museums is enticing, entertaining and educating visitors better and brighter than ever thanks to 10 Christie® DWU555-GS laser phosphor projectors recently installed at numerous exhibits all while eliminating replacement lamp costs.

Opened in February 2012, in the former United States Post Office and Federal Courthouse, The Mob Museum: The National Museum of Organized Crime & Law Enforcement is a tasteful, educational and entertaining Museum with a mission to advance the public understanding of organized crime's history and its impact on American society, complete with artifacts and interactive exhibits, and much more. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

When it was time for an upgrade, Ryan Markus, Director of Technology at the Museum, knew what he wanted. “At the Museum, we strive to provide a world-class experience to each of our guests. We are continually making improvements as we grow. I wanted everyone here at the Museum to understand the quality difference from what we had before to what we are now getting with Christie,” said Markus. “We did an old-school projector shootout, setting several projectors up on tables with the criteria being which was brightest, which gave us the most value and signal compatibility, which provided the best colors, the size requirements for the space, the contrast and much more.”

Markus and his team immediately noticed the Christie difference.

“The one that stood out above all the rest was Christie. The quality, the brightness, and the color saturation were better. The Christie warranty is amazing. Christie definitely went the extra mile.”

Enticing and educating the public with a world-class experience without glamorizing organized crime

In addition to the New York Times calling the museum “a must for travelers,” USA Today named it among the “12 can’t miss USA museum exhibits” while Trip Advisor ranks it among the top 20 museums in the United States - a prestigious honor considering there are over 35,000 museums in America, according to the Institute of Museums and Library Services.

Markus said the museum’s goal is threefold: draw the guest in and entice them do something, interactive or otherwise; Entertain the guest and make it fun; and, finally, to educate the guest.

“I want people to learn something and say, ‘Wow, that was really interesting and I learned a lot about it.’ That is what we want. Our CEO and COO always say this should be a world-class experience and we base what we do on achieving that type of experience - another reason why we chose the Christie projectors because we want the best projectors available,” concluded Markus.
“Our mission is to educate and this museum in no way glamorizes the mob in any way. We have an entire floor dedicated to law enforcement and the techniques and undercover work used to capture these criminals. It is the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement.”
With its lampless technology, small footprint, low-weight, quiet operation and a full suite of lenses, the Christie DWU555-GS laser projector is ideal for smaller location-based entertainment venues, boardrooms, higher education facilities, and houses of worship.
