  • ACER launches smaller XPR 4K projectors

With the new H7850 and V7850 projectors, ACER launches its first XPR shifting 4K projector using the smaller platform, we also see in the Optoma UHD60/65. A pre-production version was shown at ISE this February.

At its next@acer global press conference in New York Acer announced a new series of 4K display products, including the new Acer H7850 and V7850 4K projectors for home cinema enthusiasts, complimenting the bigger V9800, as well as the new Acer ProDesigner PE320QK 4K LED monitor for creative professionals.

The projectors feature 4K Ultra High-Definition (UHD) resolution, HDR- and Rec. 2020-compatibility and AcuMotion technology to deliver exceptional value and performance to mainstream audio/video enthusiasts. The new ProDesigner PE320QK monitor incorporates Acer HDR Xpert™ technology for exceptional contrast, supports USB Type-C and features an attractive ZeroFrame design to appeal to design-minded professionals.

"With 4K content being increasingly available through the rise of streaming services, Acer is gladly expanding our display portfolio for both media consumption and content creation," said Victor Chien, President of Digital Display Business, Acer Inc. "Through a solid spectrum of projectors and monitors, we deliver premium visual experiences catering to a wide range of user demands."

With more than 8.3 million on-screen pixels, both the H7850 and V7850 feature TI XPR technology, which ensures fine image details come alive. With the prevalence of online video services, premium 4K streaming content is more accessible than ever before.

Both the Acer H7850 and V7850 are HDR-compatible (High Dynamic Range), reproducing a greater dynamic range of luminosity with expanded contrast and a wider range of brightness. The projectors adjust to brighter scenes so the highlights glimmer with detail, while in darker scenes, rich blacks are preserved and details typically hidden in the shadows are enhanced for greater overall luminance. Both projectors provide a DynamicBlack contrast ratio up to a whopping 1,000,000:1 thanks to frame-by-frame analyzation and dynamic adjustments of lamp power for black-level optimization.

Catering to a wider range of user preferences, the H7850 has a brightness advantage with a 3,000-lumens rating. The V7850 includes a RGBRGB color wheel which helps produce a wider color gamut, and supports the Rec. 709 standard to faithfully reproduce original colors and tones, staying true to the film director's intentions. Both models are compatible with Rec. 2020 signals, the UHDTV standard.

The H7850 and V7850 projectors also support Acer's proprietary AcuMotion technology that enhances picture clarity in fast-moving scenes and reduces motion blur. It generates intermediate frames and inserts them between existing ones, which prevents unwanted flickering, making it ideal for watching the big game or action movies. Both projectors include Acer's ExtremeECO power-saving feature that can reduce power consumption by up to 70% and extend lamp life by up to 15,000 hours.

Acer also introduced its new ProDesigner PE320QK monitor, it features ultra high-definition 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) for displaying high-quality images in amazing detail. Photographers, video editors and others working in creative industries will appreciate the monitor's HDR Xpert technology, which enhances brightness for a vivid contrast between lights and darks, while covering a wider gamut for truly vibrant colors. The monitor's sleek ZeroFrame designs virtually eliminate the screen bezel for a seamless visual experience, with an added style benefit by adding a touch of modernity to the office. It includes a reversible USB-C port for easily connecting and charging devices to reduce desktop clutter, supporting power delivery of up to 85W. The ProDesigner PE320QK monitor produces accurate colors with a low Delta E < 1, supporting 130% of the sRGB and 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. The monitor also sports Acer VisionCare technology to reduce eye strain and fatigue during long editing sessions.

And one of the first reviews of a production unit of the ACER H7850, the version with a white and yellow field in the colorwheel to increase brightness at the cost of color accuracy. The V version will have an RGBRGB color wheel.

It is largely the same projector as the  Optoma UHD550x, by Optoma's parent company Coretronic. So, they share limited contrast, colorimetry, but the ACER is a little bit brighter, and has good frame interpolation.

And they are now also available in the US, with the Acer H7850 priced at $1,999.99 MSRP, and the Acer V7850 offered at $2,499.99 MSRP.

That's the 2500 USD one, and the 2K one is half a million to one I believe. Of course the real performance is around 1000:1. Depending on the chosen mode. As we can see in the French review and some others.

Uhm, Acer USA is even bolder stating it as 1.2 million in Europe it is still just the single million to one being specced:

            https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/MR.JPD11.00C versus https://www.acer.com/ac/de/AT/content/professional-model/MR.JPD11.001

Here in Holland they only tested the Optoma HD60, so the none HT version or H7850 counterpart, by Coretronic subsidiary Optoma. And this is the second, smaller XPR Pixel shift 4K platform by Coretronics that vendors like Acer, and Optoma base their product on. That Optoma did 1000:1 and 300:1 ANSI. Not great but the overall image supposedly was pleasing enough to the calibrator/dealer of that review to start carying the Optoma.

In Europe we are still waiting for release of the Optoma UHD65, the HT version. At ISE I was pleasantly surprised by one of the big platform projectors from a less likely candidate Casio. Laser Phosphor (not R+B, just an B engine) at €5K plus tax. At least that's what Casio said it would list at when it was introduced at ISE, it has been shipping since July here in Europe, and the US.

Of course this larger platform, we have also seen from Acer, and BenQ is around twice the price of these new small units.
