  • LG launches new line of OLED TVs 55" to 86", finally breaking the 77" barrier

According to Digitimes LG has just launched a new line of OLED TVs, to be available in sizes ranging from 55" to 86". LG expects to sell 2500 of them in Taiwan during the remainder of the year. Of course most will be in the smaller sizes. In the past LG has often postponed or even cancelled series of 77"OLED TVs, but the vendor seems to be able to supply them more reguraly now, so time to finally go beyond 77" that in some markets has become a mid-market size instead of an high-end size.

No specifications or further information seems to be available, yet.

The publication also refers to an industry estimate saying that 'global shipments of OLED TVs are to reach 2 million units in 2017'. Doubling when compared to 2016. LG is expected to ship 1.5 million sets compared to last year's 900000. Sony is expected to sell 300000 OLED TVs and Panasonic 200000. There are a number of other vendors selling TVs using the LG Display OLED panels, Loewe, Metz (Skyworth), Philips,Vestel using the Hitachi brand, so if these esimates are right there might be a hundred thousand or two additional units sold.
