Acer launched two new 4K XPR LASER-Phosphor Projectors at IFA 2017. The VL7860 home-theater projector, is based on its small V7850. The 5000 lumens rated P8800 for use in larger venues. As no pictures were provided we can not be sure, but given the specifications it is most likely a blue laser-phosphor equiped version of the larger Coretronic, ACER also used in its first 4K Home Theater the V9800. Casio started shipping such a projector recently and BenQ had one on static display at the ISE in Amsterdam last February. And Optoma has the 4K500, using that platform and Laser-phosphor, with a laser-phosphor Home Theater announced.
"An ultra high-definition experience with cinema-quality visuals and audio is becoming increasingly essential to both home and professional customers", said Victor Chien, President, Digital Display Business at Acer. Adding: "With the Acer VL7860 and P8800, we have responded to our customers' needs and created two projectors that enable them to have top-quality experiences. Whether presenting at a conference or having friends over for a movie, the idea is the same: impeccable image and sound quality is key".
The little VL7860 should provide 3000 lumens, with HDR capability. With DynamicBlack contrast optimization on-off contrast is claimed to be 1,500,000:1. The P8800 provides an 4K experience with up to 5,000 lumens of brightness and 1,200,000:1 contrast ratio.
The VL7860 supports a wide color gamut of 110% of the Rec. 709 color space and accepts and processes the wider Rec. 2020 gamut. The AcuMotion frame interpolation system, which calculates and generates intermediate frames, inserting them into existing ones for seamless motion, is claimed to ensure visuals are ultra-smooth even in fast moving scenes.
The VL7860 even offers ISFccc-certified (Certified Calibration Controls) Professional Calibration mode to balance color and brightness based on the surroundings. And 1.6X zoom allows users some flexibility in placing the projector, however there is no mention of lens shift, without this the prjector needs to be placed exactly straight in front of the screen.
The Acer P8800 projector is also equipped with TI XPR technology, offering 'more than 8.3 million on-screen pixels'. According to ACER "this 4K UHD sharpness combined with a brightness of up to 5,000 lumen keeps images vivid and crystal clear regardless of daylight, throw distance or venue size. This is all brought together with a 1,200,000:1 contrast ratio that delivers vivid blacks and brilliant whites on screen". It has the same AcuMotion technology found in its little brother the VL7860, offering the same Rec. 709 and Rec. 2020 capabilities.
The P8800 projector is provided with the Crestron Network System which allows LAN-based or multi-user control of the screen. During installation, the P8800 offers great flexibility in terms of placement and image adjustment with 1.96X motorized zoom, H/V lens shift and a central lens design.
Exact specifications, prices, and availability will vary by region.
