  • LG announced the HU80KA projector, its first 4K projector, to launch at CES

LG Electronics announced the HU80KA projector, its first 4K projector. It will be launched at CES 2018 in Las Vegas next week.

No specifications were provided beyond it being 4K and offering 2500 lumens, HDR 10, and that it has two 7W speakers. LGs 1080P LED projectors have generally offered around half the specified lumens, so we might see a similar drop in practical HT applications on the HU80KA.

No information as to whether it uses the 0.67", two position shift or one of the 0.47" 4 position, DMD. Or whether it even is an LASER or LED projector, as LG makes a distinction between the LED segment and the 4K segment:

"With the global 4K projector market expected to grow rapidly, LG is confident that its leadership in the LED projector segment can be repeated in the 4K projector segment as well".

"At this year's CES event, we are excited to bring value to consumers with our first 4K UHD projector, which delivers the highest resolution we've ever offered in a compact size," said Chang Ik-hwan, head of LG's IT business division. "LG's 4K UHD projector will lead the way in changing how consumers view 4K content in any room in the home, wherever there's an audience."

"LG's first-ever 4K UHD projector represents the pinnacle of innovation in the portable entertainment market," ads Tim Alessi, head of product marketing at LG Electronics USA. "Offering superb brightness coupled with a design that offers true versatility, the new HU80KA will lead the way in changing how consumers enjoy 4K content in their home and on the go".

It looks like a third of the classic ITT Cinevision 160:
