  • Optoma launches UHD51 XPR 4K projector, 3D but no Alexa in Europe

Optoma launches its second small 4K XPR projector based on the 0.47" DLP chip and four state pixelshifting in Europe, the UHD51. Unlike the UHD50 that was renamed to the UHD40 for the European market, Optoma did retain the same model designation it uses in the US and other markets. However the Amazon Alexa support is not included in the European version, it however does support 3D, the first (Optoma) XPR 4K projector to do so. It also ads motion interpolation that is lacking in the UHD40. It lists at UKP1499,-, no € pricing is provided.

The UHD51 can display true 3D content from almost any 3D source, including 3D Blu-ray players, 3D broadcasting and the latest generation games consoles. The new model also features advanced PureMotion frame-interpolation processing for the ultimate big screen experience.  This advanced processing eliminates motion blur or image judder, even in high-speed action films or fast-paced sports.

Packed with the latest technology and features, the UHD51 boasts High Dynamic Range (HDR) compatibility, HDCP 2.2 support and includes a stereo speaker that provides powerful audio.

Equipped with Optoma’s Amazing Colour technology which includes an enhanced colour wheel and multiple modes and settings to choose from, users have the freedom to select the best setting for the content. Each mode has been fine-tuned by Optoma’s expert colour team to ensure superior colour performance. Reference mode reproduces accurate 100% Rec.709 HDTV broadcast spec colours.<\q>

Optoma's UHD51A 4K smart home projector now works with Google Assistant. Support is available via an Action for Google Home devices and Android smartphones. In addition to being the world's first voice assistant compatible projector when it launched with Amazon Alexa compatibility, the UHD51A is now the only projector compatible with both of the leading voice platforms, which account for more than 45 million units sold in the U.S. alone, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners.

The UHD51 did not ship with Amazon support in Europe, where it does support 3D, so Google support is expected to be limited to the US as well.

The Optoma SmartProjection Action for Google Home and Assistant launches this week with standard and custom actions that enable users to turn the projector on and off, adjust volume and brightness, change inputs and display modes, and other image adjustment features.

"Consumers are increasingly integrating voice assistants into their daily routines, as well as expecting the convenience of smart home integration with their devices and electronics, so it was important for us to enable home theater to align with these growing consumer needs," said Brian Soto, head of product management at Optoma Technology. "At Optoma, we are focused on innovating in ways that meet consumers' ever-evolving habits and expectations, focused on bringing quality and simplicity to their lives."

SmartProjection for Smart Home, an Alexa Smart Home skill, currently allows Optoma UHD51A users to power the projector on and off, change volume and input source, and control the USB 4K UHD media player. Coming soon to the UHD51A is Advanced SmartProjection, an Alexa Custom Skill that allows users to voice-control advanced features, including the ability to change display and HDR picture modes, and PureMotion settings.

The Optoma UHD51A is being offered at $1,699 from Amazon, Fry's Electronics (in-store), Best Buy, Beach Camera and B&H Photo.
