At last weeks SID DisplayWeek 2018 conference and exhibition in Los Angeles CA, PixelDisplay CTO/President Mr. David Wyatt, demonstrated VividColor HDR enabled displays. PixelDisplay demonstrated VividColor HDR side-by-side with Quantum Dots (QD), but with VividColor applied directly "on-die," in standard LED-edge-lit LCD - a feat not possible with QD's due sensitivity to temperature, humidity, and photo-oxidization. It also demonstrated a "Roll-to-roll" film-stack version, for use with Mini-LED, basically a small local dimming array.
Yes, PixelDisplay is looking to serve 'a $750mil/yr component-market for portable HDR devices in 2019'. Offering an open license for faster-ramp of the proliferating HDR-capable displays. But there is no reason why it could not be aplied to larger LCDs or to enhance the coourspace of larger Micro-LED displays.
