  • JVC goes native, shifts to 8K

JVC is launching native 4K Home Theater projectors D-ILA projectors at IFA, after having relied on HD panels with e-shift pixel shifting for its line of Hometheater projectors, through the decade. One model uses e-shift for 8K.

JVC has offered 8K e-shift projectors to the simulation market since late 2012, 2013. For the past year, or two, JVC has started to offer native 8K panel based projectors to that market after it abandonned its initial 8K D-ILA panel D-Cinema projector in 2009, opting for 4K with e-shift instead. Leaving the Home Theater users with what they refered to as 'faux-4K' projectors, 1080P panels with pixel-shift.

No more 'fake', as JVC introduces the native 4K, 0.69", 4096x2160pixels, D-ILA based projectors, DLA-N5, DLA-N7, and the DLA-NX9 with 4K panels with e-shift for 8K luminance resolution. The N5 is priced at €5999.- , the DLA-N7 costs €7999.- and JVC adds another 10K to that for the 8K through e-shift DLA-NX9. It has an MSRP of €17999.-.

The NX9 is using the all glass in aluminium barrel 100mm lens used in the DLA-Z1 4K laser phosphor projector. It lacks an 8K signal input, so the pixel shifting acts purely as a filter for 4K content, to add sharpness, reduce pixellisation.

With the NX9 JVC is coming full circle, back to the initial Super Hi-Vision/Ultra High Definition Television demo's with NHK in 2006, where a second green channel was added to the 4K RGB proection set-up. The second green channel being a quarter pixel off-set, diagonally, to create 32 megapixel luminace resoltion. But now all bundled up in a relatively small package, a consumer product.

Clear Motion Drive is to smooth motion portayal at resolutions upto 4K60P at 4:4:4 sampling, it works together with Motion Enhance that controls/addresses the D-ILA panels themselves.

JVC has not annouced if it will continue to offer 1080P with e-shift projectors, some reports claim it will not making JVC an even more exclusive projector brand.

The first units should be available at the end of October 2018.
