  • IMAX announces IMAX Enhanced certification and licensing program voor Electronic

Another sticker vying for consumer attention, as IMAX announced the IMAX Enhanced certification and licensing program for Electronics products, to promote its content to the consumer market. "The new certification and licensing program combines the highest-end consumer electronics products with IMAX digitally re-mastered 4K HDR content and DTS audio technologies to offer consumers a new level of quality in immersive sight and sound experiences for the home" IMAX promises.

IMAX and its Licensing program manager DTS also announced a number of launch partners: Sony Electronics, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and Sound United – parent company to Denon and Marantz.

"To be accepted into the program, leading consumer electronics manufacturers will design top-of-the-line 4K HDR televisions, A/V receivers, sound systems and other home theatre equipment to meet a carefully prescribed set of the highest audio and video performance standards, set by a certification committee of IMAX and DTS engineers and Hollywood’s leading technical specialists.

The program will use the newest, proprietary post-production process developed by IMAX to digitally re-master content to produce more vibrant colors, greater contrast and sharper clarity. The companies will also partner with award-winning Hollywood sound mixers to use a special variant of its DTS:X codec technology integrated in home audio equipment to deliver an IMAX signature sound experience".

IMAX and DTS are designing an IMAX Mode for the enhanced devices that will be meticulously optimized to play digitally re-mastered content as the filmmaker intended in the home.

Consumers can access content from Hollywood studios as well as select IMAX documentaries through its IMAX Home Entertainment division. The company will also work with its global studio and other content partners to make available a steady stream of enhanced versions of blockbuster movies and additional programming.

I wonder why any consumer electronics manufacturer would care. The landscape is already overloaded with  too  many formats IMO.

The new US Sony 4K SXRD projectors carry this label. The Euro release at IFA was prior to the IMAX announcement, so there was no announcement for the Euro model numbers. The product page for the VW-870, currently has no mention of IMAX Enhanced. However according to Forbes all new! X1 Extreme processor based TVs and projectors will be IMAX enhanced, including the VW870, 570, and 270 European model numbers. The ZD9 is old, so not certified, according to Forbes.

Sony only announced the certifcation for the US models:
Sony's displays certified for use with IMAX® Enhanced content, including the three newly announced projectors, the new A9F OLED and Z9F LED MASTER Series TVs, the A8F and A1E OLEDs, and the X900F lines; this new certification and licensing program combines Sony's premium 4K HDR home cinema projectors with IMAX digitally re-mastered 4K HDR content and DTS® audio technologies to offer consumers a new level of quality in immersive sight and sound experiences for the home<\q>

Sony announced a few certified more models.
