For its new 8K channel NHK launched on December 1st has been touring the world to pre-produce 8K content, but yesterday, Sunday December second, it produced its first live feed in 8K, from Rome to Japan.
The 8K,10Bit color, Rec 2020 color space, 60FPS, HLG High Dynamic Range video with 22.2 channel audio feed ran over the EUTELSAT 12 West B satellite. Uplinked from a mobile uplink provided by M-three Satcom. NHK relied on the highest established order of commercially available modulation, DVB-S2X, in 16APSK mode, and HEVC encoding.
